Format Problem of new external HDD USB 3.0

Thread Starter
Brand New Buffalo HD-LBU3 Series
1TB USB 3.0/2.0 compatible
http://www.buffalotech.com/products/...sb-30-hd-lbu3/

Having a QUICK format receives no errors. But I tried REGULAR format just to be sure.

I am trying to have a REGULAR format using DISK Management.

64K Allocation size since it will be used for storing 1GB+ movies(mkv/mp4)

At around 90%+ i receive a Virtual Disk Manager error.
The format did not complete succesfully.

I already tested that usb 3.0 speed is attained (using hd tune pro 4.6)

What is the possible cause of this?
1. HDD
2. Cable
3. BIOS config
4. Drivers
5. Windows Update?

It takes time for me to format the HDD. That is why I need to know what's causing the problem so I don't have to reformat again and again.

My guess it's one of 1 2 or 4. To format the disk try placing it on USB 2 (remove the driver issue) or remove it from the case and place it on a SATA cable (remove possible cable/sata-to-usb3 controller issue).
My 2 cents: most likely it's a driver problem or windows incompatibility, the HDD should format properly in SATA mode.

If a quick format work just do that. You can run some disc integrity tools to see if there are bad sectors or any other such problems with the disc. If so RMA.
