Help with setup for 990x and SLI 570

Thread Starter
I'm sure this has been asked, just couldn't find it using the search.

My sig rig is back up and running, now operating on 2 gtx570s and a 990x at 4630MHz. My problem comes in that when I fold with the 2 gpus, the SMP client tumbles down to 5900ppd. I've read somewhere about dedicating a core for the GPUs, just have no idea how to do it or if there is a better to set my system up.

Thanks for the help!

Using the GPU3 client for Fermi card is going to eat 10k PPD from your cpu not matter what you do. Set up the GPU's with this guide and run your SMP client with the -smp 11 flag if your using hyper threading on your 990x.

Finally had some time to work on this and after a few failed attempts I got it working!

CPU and 2 GPUs folding. I'm sure there is some tweaking to do to maximize points, I'm just excited I got it all to work. I was folding for the CC, now I'm working on my first 10 before I take off on the bigger wus.

If anyone has advice, I'm all ears...

Wait your doing it wrong.

You need to add the -smp flag to your CPU client, right now you are folding standard units which are meant for single core units.
How to add flags

I did, first time around I forgot and was only using 8% of my cpu. I went back in and reconfigured adding -smp, now it's using 100%. I thought my points were painfully low but figured they would be until I went for -bigadv wus.

Am I totally confused here?

After running all night I found something else I could use a little input with: GPU2 is getting about 1/3 the points gpu1 is getting.

Any ideas why 2 identical cards are working so different? Core priority set to "slightly higher" on both cards.

Make sure the 2nd GPU didn't drop to 2D clocks.

I'm back on track with 2 GPUs running strong around 17K ppd, but my SMP client has tanked down to 4277ppd. I know I'm on my first 10 before the bonus kicks in, but is this right? I made sure the -smp flag is in place and I'm using 100% of my CPU (all 12 threads show 100%).

I'm hoping to get my next machine folding today as well, it's a 2600K build that I plan to run Ubuntu on. Should help get my ppd up there

Thanks for all the help, I really appreciate it!

Change "-smp" to "-smp 11" to give space for the GPUs.
