Yep that'd be me. He can think what he wants. But that chip will hit 200+ watts really quite quickly, and it might not be tuned for anywhere near 2400 btuh.

Subbed. Always been interested to try something else than only water cooling

i think piped directly to the waterblocks and not submerged in oil it could well work, though the compressor would be on full duty.
If subzero is the goal then it probably wont work.

fwiw i messed with a 3.6k btu chiller hooked up via the normal liquid cooling method+insulation and it wasnt really enough to subzero my 96w phenom 945(OCced,naturally) and a pair of OCced 470s,But it was enough to keep temps under control and sub air cooling temps...
It was worthwhile going down that route as the stopgap chiller was only £3 lol
so i stuck it back together, sold it and put a 6k btu unit in place.

For noise reasons i wouldnt think of subermerging in oil at home as the chiller Must be in close proximity,so a chiller next to your desk doesn't appeal at all but for a demo unit of what a pc shop/system builder can do,i imagine it would have the desired effect on customers.

I would trust NoL who has a proven track record over an unknown quantity who has only shown they can do sums also...

Thread Starter
Just as an update everyone...

I've been working on tuning the compressor for maximum efficiency. When I first got it, it was frosting down the suction line very badly. While the cooling was great, it was getting water EVERYWHERE when I turned off the compressor. I added more refrigerant temporarily to tune out the frost, at the cost of less cooling capacity. I've since been able to insulate the suction line, and I've been removing refrigerant to get it back to its stock pressure level.

It takes a LONG time to cool the oil to sub-ambient temps. Last night I went to bed with the oil at a toasty 44c. This morning it was about 24c. As it's currently tuned, the compressor can keep up with cooling the computer at idle, but not under load--the temperatures slowly climb while loading up during a game or whatnot.

Eventually I'd like to take the unit to a professional HVAC guy and get it properly charged according to the load that I am putting on it.

I'll try and post pictures soon...I've been busy with work and getting this thing tuned.

Stay tuned (har har har)...
