$600 Gaming Build

Thread Starter
This is harder than I thought it would be. So my friend asked me to "concoct a list" (his words, not mine lol) and he wants to do some gaming...obviously not maxing things out . He said he plans on playing some BFBC2, TF2, Fallout 3, and BF3(when it comes out). Any ideas? It would be preferable to use newegg and frys. It does include the monitor as welll (that's what's screwing with me lol)

A bit over 600. Or you can get a single PCI slot motherboard and knock 25 dollars off.

This is okay, except, I would personally drop the motherboard, cpu and graphics card for these two:

Mobo- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-296-_-Product

Cpu- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-072-_-Product

The graphics form the cpu are pretty incredible (TF2, SC2 and BC2 playable). and the cpu is amazing. When he wants to get serious and start playing BF3 or just playing games nice, he can toss in a graphics card of his choice. Saves money as well.

The worst suggestion I've ever seen, man you are suggesting an integrated gpu!!
I cant beleave it!!
If he buys an i5 2500k for a $600 build he can't even buy all the components,
The build I suggested(includes a gtx460) will provide him much better gaming performence.

If there's a need for a Win7 OS disc, that'll be almost 1/6 of the budget right there. In which case, your friend may be better of with an AMD setup.

It was just an idea. I understand that a dedicated gpu is way better even with a lower end cpu.

BUT! He is on a 600$ budget for a whole entire build. At least he won't have to upgrade the cpu (if he got the 2500k) and it plays SC2 on Ultra (with the integrated graphics).. so why not. His games arent gpu intensive... come on... TF2, even BC2 isnt gpu intensive, but it is cpu intensive, so the high end i5 2500k will help. If he wants, down the road when he saves more, then he can upgrade to a dedicated graphics card.

If he is on a budget like the one he posted ($600) then my recommendation would be the i5 2500k, you would even save money from not buying the i3 and gtx 460 << which will get out dated fast. with the i5 you can add whatever gpu is out when Battlefield 3 is released and it will woop the i3/gtx 460.

Im not being rude, im just trying to make a logical point if he doesnt want to waste money and wants the best future rig.

To some extent I agree wit you that i5 2500k is a great cpu,but I wouldnt ever recommend it for $600 build because he have to include a H67 mobo(p67 mobo wont come in that budget) which sucks at OC,
So I consider i5 2500k +p67/z68 mobo for a $800+ build

I'm selling a 1GB GTX 460 for $135, that could help keep the cost low. Also, I've used it to play all those games and at 1680x1050 it maxes them all.

I kind of like that AMD build, but I was thinking it would be expensive to find a motherboard that supports bulldozer
