Folding in SLI?

Thread Starter
This is two questions but the first one is more of a Nvidia cards in general question, then the second is about folding.

I just added my two 8800gtx to my sig rig, where the 560ti is my main card and the other two I just stuck in to fold. First off can I SLI these cards even if they aren't my primary card? Second is if folding is better in SLI or just having each card do its thing

When you say in SLI, are you asking whether you can use two cards to fold one workunit? The answer is no. But you can have SLI enabled while each card folds its own wu.
There is way to do it so you don't have to disable SLI. I know cause I had it setup like that until I updated my drivers and it didn't really like my flags anymore so now I have to disable SLI every time I fold. Not really of a problem though, most games I play don't even support SLI ]:

from what i understand, you can't fold SLI. I mean the cards can be set-up like that for gaming, but each card def needs it's own client. Don't quote me, but i thought you were supposed to have the bridge removed when folding SLI cards.... don't do anything till someone confirms or not though

SLI should be turned off for the client to work correctly. I don't know why but I believe it's on Stanford site somewhere. I've had two cards folding which were also used for SLI, I just left the bridge on them, not really tested any difference.

Second, you can't SLI two cards within the system because you're using a different card as display. You can SLI you're cards if you would place them on top and one connected to a display. Considering you have a 560ti I would not suggest that.

you can have SLI enabled for folding
there will be 1 client used for each GPU
so you will have a total of 3 clients if your in 2 way SLI and CPU folding

Haha, I finally found this out last night after installing my second 460.

No, not for that generation of cards. If you want to fold with three cards you need gpu3 and the old gpu2 client right. The gpu2 client didn't allow folding with sli on. However I'm not sure if the new client fixed that or not.

which generation?

i'm using the beta 7 client that combines both smp and gpu clients into 1 program so I can monitor them pretty easy

SLI and folding work perfectly fine for me

Ok, assuming it will work in SLI, does it give the same PPD when SLI is disabled?
