FSB vs Multiplier

Thread Starter
Is there difference in say

400 FSP with a 10 Multiplier

and say

40 FSB with a 100 Multiplier?

Also, how do you know what voltz to use?

FSB affects the speed at which your memory runs. 40 FSB would mean your memory would run extremely slow.

For core voltage, set your FSB and Multi to multiply out to what you want the CPU clock speed to be, and then you just have to start low (near your CPU's VID) and increase gradually until you get a stable system. There are other things to change to tweak the voltage a bit lower if you are experiencing high temperatures.

There are literally tons of guides on her on how to optimize your OC, just do a search and you'll find them.

Also when upping FSB you'll find that you will need more vcore then when you use multi to get stable

Ahh so while a higher FSB is better for memory speed, you may have to go with a higher multiplier so that you can decrease your vcore to lower heat?

I have read a number of guides, but end up having more questions. Being able to ask specifics always makes everything easier for me.

No.... a CPU clock speed is based upon (clock * multiplier).

A 3GHz CPU will need the same Vcore if (100*30) or (50*60) since it still the same clock.

Ok, then why would anyone not use a 1 as a multiplier if the higher FSB is better? I know it's prolly an obvious answer but I'm missing something lol

Because you can't get a FSB that high.

I believe in FSB usually hits 400-500MHz (been awhile since FSB overclocking).

Think of it like a car's transmission system where RPM = FSB and gears = multiplier.
