HD 5850 OC stable in Furmark, but not BC2 - Page 2

I'll keep tinkering, and I'll check into getting an older version of AB (currently using 2.1.0). And while I'd agree it is a tempermental game, when I play sans OC I can't recall the last time it crashed, if ever. So I think you're definately on to something, but the test I just performed was definitely with AB off (even checked Task Manager) but I still crashed roughly 25 minutes in.

Just crashed after approx. 8 minutes.

1000 core/1200 mem @ 1.274 volts.
Afterburner was used to OC, then completely turned off.
This attempt I ran as admin (which I've never done before, but clearly not what's wrong). So that doesn't appear to be the culprit, now to go find AB 2.0 and try that.

Edit: Anybody know where to find an older version of AB? Been looking unsuccessfully.

Just curious- you made sure BC2 isnt crashing at stock 5850 settings right? In my mind the only way BC2 is more stressful than furmark is that it's using both CPU and GPU. Some of my buddies force DX9 mode in BC2 just because they have stability issues with it without overclocking.

Yeah, my card is an XFX Black Edition that comes pre-OC'd, but at the 'stock' (true stock is 725 core/1000 memory, my card comes at 765/1125) settings for this card I can play the game all day without issue. And as I said before, I check my temps every few minutes right up to the point I crash, CPU never gets much past 50C and GPU never past 65C (I usually run my fan at 50-60% while OC'd).

Did you do a burn-in test in Kombustor? Also, I haven´t read the whole thread, but have you tried unintalling Afterburner completely? This was the only solution that worked for me with BC2, tough as it may be to let go of AB.

The TL: DR version is this...

I run Furmark and Kombustor flawlessly at 1000/1200 on my 5850, and can play Starcraft 2, Dragon Age 2 and Crysis 2 flawlessly as well, for hours on end. I use AB and AMD GPU Clock Tool to OC my card. Also, BC2 runs at stock card speeds without issue (even with AB open to give me fan control at stock speeds.)

I've attempted this so far...
1.) Run BC2 as admin (didn't fix it)
2.) OC with AB, then exit AB entirely before running BC2 (failed as well)
3.) Running a lower OC: 950/1200, 900/1150, 850/1150 (no go, any OC crashes me apparently)
4.) Sitting in an empty server without moving or pointing my camera at anything particularly GPU intensive (still froze eventually).

Here you can see my last Furmark results...

Edit: Sorry the picture might be hard to make out, my native resolution is 1920x1200 and Overclock.net only allows up to 1600x1200.

Since your temps are quite good, I guess you could always try throwing more voltage at the card. I hear they go to 1.3

Dude.... with MSI Afterburn you need to delete this file: "RTcore.cfg" or rename it.

Find it here: C:\\Program Files (x86)\\MSI Afterburner

Your card is fine, this is a bug with MSI and BFbc2. I use my CFX @940/1150 and got no problem at stock volts.

Enjoy
