[ZDnet] Apple to support reps "Do not attempt to remove the malware" - Page 5

Hopefully Apple fixes this problem in a timely manner. It would be bad if people's confidence in the Apple brand drops, especially those who think Macs do not get virus/malware and only Windows get them.

Funny thing is this Malware is hilariously easy to remove, had to do it a few times at work. Also, all it really does it ask for a credit card number.

- force quit the application from the Activity Monitor
- Delete the app from the apps folder
- delete any copies of the install .pkg from users downloads folder
- done

Dell directs customers to third-party security software partners for removal. It also offers paid malware removal services for $129 (phone) or $229 (in person). The service uses the tag line “No fix. No fee.â€

HP provides a similar paid service. “Virus and spyware removal†are included in the services offered with the HP PC Tune-up Service. It’s available for a one-time fee of $99 or a monthly subscription fee of $10.
Apple is not to blame here. No company that issues warranty/guarantees with their computers ever cover Malware/Spyware Virus/Trojans and this includes Applecare. Even if you were to pay for malware removal service, the labor is not guaranteed either while other services like hardware installation usually is.

AppleCare is actually better than other warranties out there. I've warrantied my HP Tablet for a broken power jack 2 years ago and it took 3 weeks for them to replace the motherboard. A year ago my sister's Dell laptop had a loose hindge on the screen so it wouldn't stay up. Took them 4 weeks to get it back to me. 2 months ago my 13" MacBook Pro's HDD crashed (probably because i dropped it heh) and I took it to the store, and 45 minutes later I got it back with a fresh new OS install. I didn't even need to bring my receipt because Applecare is tied to the S/N.

Dream Killer,

Microsoft the Windows Operating System developer/creator provides free support and a free antivirus for malicious program removals. Yup, free.

Apple the OS Operating system devleoper/creater provides no support nor acknowledgement for malicious program removals. Yup, totally free they will not deny nor confirm.

So much for your argument.

Yeah so easy you had to do it a few times at work?

Why don't you just ban the sites were the program download/auto-runs from?

No, that would be good. I hate how ignorant the typical apple user is. I think apple should tell their consumers the truth and stop marking up their hardware 200%

You totally misinterpreted my post. A few customers have come in with this malware, thus I've had to remove the malware a few times at work.

Anti-virus software for Macs do exist. It's even on the shelves of Apple Retail Stores (they even tried to sell me one). Microsoft giving out MSE for free isn't much of an argument because were talking about providing support for machines that are already infected.

According to apple, the malware needs admin authorization to install, which means these people are just being careless. This is nothing like the ninja malware that hit XP all the time. Don't know about windows 7 cause i've never first-hand seen someone with it get infected(yet).
