possible bottleneck?

Thread Starter
As you can see I am running 460gtx in SLI with an AMD phenom iiX4 955. When I run the Nvidia SLI indicator in-game, the green bar on the left that fluctuates up and down indicating the power output of the video cards stays at a minimum in some places while playing rift and other games such as WoW. Is this because my cpu is bottlenecking and would an AMD phenom ii x6 1090t solve or atleast help this issue?
Please Note: No, I do not want an intel cpu. Just thought I'd clear that up for the intel fanboys out there.

Thanks for your time and helpful answers!

First question is... what's your cpu overclocked to? I see you have liquid cooling, and if you've overclocked to 4.0, you should be fine.

EDIT: I mean.. I say 4.0, but I think 3.8 and above should be fine.

I don't know about rift, but doesn't WoW have SLI & Crossfire scaling problems? last time i was crossfire they had anyway. If the CPU is overclocked to ~3.6/+ im gonna say its defo not gonna bottleneck you.

I mean... I'm oc'd to 3.6 on air and I have a bottleneck with my 480.. I want to upgrade to an x6 and I'm sure I will soon.

Your bottleneck may be related to your memory speed.

How exactly does one Identify a bottleneck? I have been running benchmarks and playing games to see if I can find a performance hang up and I have not found one yet.

A system is only as fast as its slowest part, people just always assume its the cpu, right off the bat lol.

True, but I need a new mobo/cpu/ram anyways, lol! While I'm at it... I'll throw in a better hdd.

Phenom II do bottle neck dual gpus. Even overclocked there always seem to be a bottleneck. Solution? Buy an Intel platform or Bulldozer platform. Though for now, just crank that cpu has high as you can.

I ran some tests to see if my SLi 470s were bottlenecking, and where.
increasing cpu-nb helped give some extra frames,as would using faster RAM.

There is no way i could overclock my FSB enough to bring the ram up to speeds that would eliminate the bottleneck there, but that would be the direction i would be looking if i could get ddr2 anywhere near as fast as the higher ranges of ddr3.

A more modern mobo and fast ddr3 would push the bottleneck back to cpu clock speeds, then you can OC that harder
