How well do a 5970 and a 5870 in crossfire perform, would my 1090T@4Ghz bottleneck?

I have the signature PC and am considering to fill the empty PCIe slot with a 5870.

Does anybody have those 2 cards in cross- resp. trifire and can tell how well they perform? Is there even a noticable FPS boost? I've read in another forum, that someone even had about 1/3 FPS less than with just the 5970 alone.

Here: http://forums.amd.com/game/messagevi...hreadid=125583

I've also read, that some people expected that an i7 920@4Ghz might bottleneck the crossfired 5970/5870, and that's a more capable CPU, so I'm worrying if my 1090T could handle the load or if the 5970 is already too much for it.

So does anybody have experience with that graphics card configuration and can report about it and also are my CPU and my PSU up to the task?

Thanks.

Yes. It would definitely be bottlenecked, especially in games that only use 2 cores. The PhenomII is slightly slower than a 45nm Core2 clock for clock, so i5s/i7s greatly outperform it for games and programs that don't use as many cores.

Here is a CPU scaling chart for 2x5870s (your trifire will show much more CPU bottleneck). A PII x6 @ 4GHz will perform about the same as a PII x4 @ 4GHz

http://www.legionhardware.com/articl..._part_1,1.html

For example, a CPU-intensive game such as FarCry2:
http://www.legionhardware.com/images...PhenomIIX4.png

i7 9x0 @ 4.0GHz = 106min/156avg fps PhenomIIx4 @ 4.0GHz = 72.8min/108.7avg fps

Of course, this is all over 60fps so you won't notice the bottleneck. Then again, you won't notice any difference by adding another GPU anyways so I suggest you save your money...

No form of bottle neck i know of, maybe in games that are very cpu dependent, such as GTA4, but that game doesnt do well on PC anyways.

I have not heard of the performance of tri firing those card, but i do know that tri fire for the 5xxx series dont scale the best. So if you have not bought the card yet i don't think you should. You resolution is perfect for your video card no need too make the jump when you refresh rate is at 60.

Just my opinion though

Is there anything worthwhile I could use the second PCIe slot for? Some sort of an upgrade or is the second PCIe slot just redundant for my system?

I've been told there will soon be the solely software based OpenCL by AMD that would kinda replace physx. An OpenCL demo video on youtube was uploaded already over two years ago though. Here: http://www.youtube.com//watch?v=MCaGb40Bz58

So will OpenCL ever come out?
