Computer starts, then shuts down.

I know this has been up several times, but cant get anywhere.
Was installing a new game, when the screen all of a sudden froze.

After that it wont start. I start it up the fans start spinning and after everything from 1-5 sec it shuts down again, some sec later it starts and the same thing happends.

- I have tried unplugging ut for 30 sec.
- I have tried to remove the CMOS battery, and clearead the CMOS with the button.
- Have tried to remove all but 1 Ram stick.
- Have tried to remove both graphic cards, then only 1 card.
- Tried the MEM OK button.

Nothing helps.

Sounds like hardware failure. Does your motherboards pc speaker make any beep codes during POST? The amount beeps and their duration will tell you what error is occurring.

No beeps what so ever. I'm uploading a vid to youtube as we speak. As you will see, most of the times it shuts down right after the fans start spinning, about 1/10 times it lastst for up to 5 sec, but then shuts down.

Im suspecting the PSU.

Here you go:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nYoz3NBobQ

I only used the powerbutton 2 times, First start, and first start after i unplugged the power, @ 1:32 you see one of those "long" restarts, you can hear the DVD-Rom start, then it shuts down again.

Interesting. From my experience when a PSU fails it won't send power to the motherboard at all. When it is overloaded beyond its max wattage the computer will post, load windows, and subsequently fail once under load. What could be happening is that the SCP is kicking in.

I'm just guessing here but try unplugging all non essential molex, sata, and berg connections one at a time to single out what might be causing a fault.

I hate to say it, but it seems more like a mobo issue to me. Do you have another mobo that you can test things on?

Of course, I'd go with what Interpolation stated previously, although if it continues to do the same, try replacing Bios battery as well.

It seems like it's stuck in an endless trying to POST loop. I was going to suggest looking for bent pins.

I dont have have another board with this socket around. I will try a different PSU to check that, i will also try to unplug everything.

Dont know how it could be bent pins. It has worked fine without any problems the last 4 months without doing anything to it. Now all of a sudden it failed and this happends.

What i could do is plug some fans to the PSU and jumpwire it. If it is the PSU the same would happend, if it starts up and runs like new i would say that its something else, or?

almost certain this is a mobo issue. (or very unlikely but psu issue). It seems that your mobo is getting power but when starting somewhere on the pcb there is a fault that blocks the circuit and causing the motherboard to power down. Sry to hear this frown.gif rma the board if another psu fails.

Would be interested to know what happens if you unplug the cpu power pin, the 4 or 8 pin cpu power? Cuz I had an MSI 790FX board that I OC'ed a bit too much and had a similar problem. Unplugged the cpu power pin, and everything else fired up and stayed on,but no post. With the the cpu pin plugged in about what is happening in that video happened. Turned out a Fried the VRM's.
