And your great philosophy failed to mention that 360s have had their warranty extended to 3 years, which triples the likelihood of it failing and is bound to make it higher than the PS3s (with its 1 year warranty). Please don't spout this "reliability" nonsense because Nintendo are the only ones that haven't seriously screwed something up in their launch model consoles this generation, and that was only because it was old tech to begin with.
Make no mistake: The Xbox 360 was WAY less reliable than the PS3, and it wasn't even close.

The original Samsung drives were garbage. The X Clamps were a terribly implemented that caused every Xenon to inherently overheat. Microsoft shot themselves in the foot by cutting lots of corners on the Xbox.

I never said one was more reliable than the other, they were both worthless and unreliable as far as I'm concerned. We can throw figures around all day long and it still won't matter, as since I've had both fail on me after a little over a year of use, I have no interest in going back to either, unless it's free.

Nevermind, I see the catch in this "great deal", they want to shift their outdated, crap OEM stock quickly with this offer thrown in to make it seem like a bargain. That makes it about as great as those 36-month £30-a-month mobile phone contracts that give you a "free" console after paying for it in the first place, no thanks MS.

Once again Microsoft is expanding their products all over the world.
And I like the way they do that.
I just wish I could buy games for my xbox360 cheaper than nowdays.

MS came out with 6 skus (Arcade and Pro in 2005, Elite in 2007, Jasper 14 volt in 2008 I believe, Jasper 12 volt and then the Slim in 2010) over the course of 5 years. How many people do you think replaced their old console over buying a slightly more reliable sku? The 12volt Jaspers were the most reliable models until they got discontinued by MS. Sony came out with 3 skus over the course of 3 years (2006 launch models, 2007 or 2008 re-up (getting rid of the BC chip due to the company making it going out of business) and then the Slim in 2009)

Quite clearly starting to clear older stock to make room for the next xbox's arrival.

Ah well back then Wal-Mart was replacing them in-store as long as I had receipts. I went through 5 PS1's until I finally gave up. My 5th PS1 would only read discs if I turned it upside down and leaned a phone book on it rofl. My best friend went through 5 PS2's before giving up on the system. All 5 broken on him and Sony made him pay to replace the 4th and 5th one.

Not to fuel the fire but thought I would say my launch ps2 and my non-launch ps3(just after backwards compatibility was discontinued ) still run perfectly to. On topic, I think that this is a good deal, if you don't want the xbox then just sell it and get a nice rebate lol.

I think Microsoft just wants to kick Sony in the nuts while they are down. Good for them.

It really makes me wonder what people actually do with their consoles honestly. I have a PS1 that is still active since 1997, no issues and still plays games like at launch, same thing with my Xbox and my 360 (I had to use the warranty on the 360 because of a power surge in my house after a major thunder storm - but it was covered by MS). And in all honesty, reliability wise, I had as many friends returning PS3's as Xbox's.

Some people think that Sony wanted to remove Backwards Compatibility and Linux. Linux was removed due to hackers. And BC was removed due to the company that made the chip either stopped making the chip or went out of business. I could see why they removed the memory slots, not that useful.
