Good free editor like E or textmate? - Page 2

Check out Netbeans. it is more than just a text editor. Does a better job of being able to work on Projects instead of individual files.

Notepadd++ is good to, and I definitely use it for general txt editing, but prefer more of an integrated IDE for project development.

It also auto-closes tags as you were asking earlier and you can customize it to do all kinds of stuff.

Right, how do you get it to auto-close tags though? I'm still unsure how to do this.

I actually just figured that out which was really useful... apparently just install the TextFX plugin and activate the setting. Now, is there any way I can simultaneously edit associated tags, like when they are highlighted when you click on them in Notepad++?

Edit: Just realized this was a stupid idea. Nevermind.

Yet another question for you all: Is there a way to change the color of keywords? Like tags are in blue, things like rel, href, and id are in red, how do I change these or add more specific colors for items in my code?

Edit: reps all round for input

notepad++ does auto color coding for different languages. As well as advanced highlighting features. It is pretty damn snazzy.

I use the Crimson Editor, not tried any of the ones mentioned.
Crimson editor works well for lot sof html/php as you can have loads a tabs open so you can work on a lot of files simultanously. I will have a look at the other mentioned. I have visual studio, isn't it a bit cumbersome for a bit of html?

I would say try SublimeText too. It asks you to pay but you don't have to. It just asks you if you want to pay about every 30 saves.
