urgent... help please !

Thread Starter
hello guys...

my issue has started when I decided to replay Metro 2033 which got me into troubles with resolution...

so once I launched the game the resolution has changed and I got a blank screen with a message saying "input not supported" and as it was completely blank I had no option changing the resolution, so I tried to launch the task manager pressing ALT+CTRL+DELETE bot the screen was still black...

I uninstalled the graphics drivers later (267) and ran DriverSweeper and then installed the 270 driver, and after rebooting, I got the same message saying input not supported with a completely black screen, so it seems like the new driver auto-detected the previous resolution, I logged into Windows in safe mode, and changed the resolution, but again this didn't work, also I checked System Restore, but there was no point to restore it it.

now it seems like the only option I have now is to reinstall Windows again, but do you really think this is my last chance to resolve such a minor issue ?

I need your help please..

now I just uninstalled the graphics drivers in order to be able to use the PC.

any help about this please ?

regards.

You may need to reset the games resolution out of game. I do not know how to do it myself but that is the main question that needs to be answered.

no, its not like you think, if the problem is only about the game itself, then I would like to tell you that I have thought of the same thing, but the issue got more complicated, that when I rebooted first, the resolution was changed before even I launch the game, the resolution was just stuck at the values that the game set, letting the whole system work on it, so I can not do anything to even be able to launch the game or even get access to the desktop.

so this is the problem, the only way I could use the PC is to work without a graphics driver like I am doing now, otherwise, once I install any driver version, the resolution gets higher than this LCD supports resulting in a black screen with that message on it.

this is why it seems like the only option I have now is to reinstall Windows, but I am still hoping that you can help me find a solution for this.

GTS 450? Try downloading the latest drivers off of the MSI website (if you do not currently have them) the other option is to get a new graphics card... which I would recommend since that is not even the minimum spec card you need to run the game.

I have two comments about this:

- first off, you have come out of the problem range, and concentrated on the game itself while my problem now is how to get access to my files and my desktop to be even able to change the resolution, my friend... once Windows loads I get a black screen with a message says "input not supported" I can't even see the field where I should type the Windows access password, have you got it now ?

- second... are you sure that the GTS450 is not capable of playing the Metro 2033 ??? what would you say if I tell you that I already played this game on my old 8500GT 1GB DDR2 card flawlessly ??

surprised ?

Yes I would be surprised. You GPU is also creating a decent bottleneck for your CPU.

regarding my CPU, then I would say yes, you are right, I know that my processor can handle more powerful cards than this, but when I bought this card I was on a tight budget, and anyway it was and still is better than my old 8500GT by ages...

back to the issues, have you got any clue on how to resolve it ?

thanks.

Well, if deleting the drivers lets you into windows. I'd recommend uninstalling the game, making sure all drivers are uninstalled for your graphics adapter, and hunting down a driver for your monitor.

If your monitor only handles a certain resolution, getting a driver to tell windows that would solve the problem I'd think.

Yes, make sure you have a driver for you monitor as well. If all fails, you may need to get a new Video card. Reinstalling Windows should always be a last resort.
So if I am to understand correctly, you uninstalled the drivers, but that still caused windows to boot into an unknown resolution? Did you try pressing escape? Just in case there is a screen you cannot see, asking if the resolution is OK. Probably not, but worth a try.

Also, have you booted into safe mode? This seems like the most obvious solution, because windows will just load the default drivers in safe mode. Another option would be to plug your monitor into your motherboard's onboard plug, if you have one.

edit:

nevermind, just re-read your first post and saw that you booted into safe mode already. Perhaps look online and see if you can go into the registry manually and change your driver's default resolution?

Also, I looked up your board (MSI P55-GD55) and saw that there was no onboard video, so no luck there.
