To upgrade or not?

Hi all,

I'm currently running an old 775 build - an 5400 on a Biostar G31M7-te. I've overclocked to 3.0 ghz with stability, but i'm definitely looking for more horsepower. The question is, should I dump more money into a dead platform, or upgrade? I'm also having a tough time choosing between an AMD and Intel build. Should I go with a Phenom II 955 BE, or a Core i3 2100? Or should I just upgrade to a E7500-E8400 or a QXXX series?

The money you would spend to make that LGA 775 system a powerful one, would better be directed towards newer technology.

If you upgraded your current CPU to a Quad, your current motherboard would never be able to overclock it in any significant amount.

Save more, wait for a higher end system. I wouldn't spend more on only a dual core only to have to upgrade again in another year. Get a good mobo with a quard core and be done with it for awhile.

Thanks ;p

Probably going to wait until bulldozer comes out just to see what happens with CPUs and more importantly, prices.
