Upgrade Time

Thread Starter
Within a couple of weeks I will finally be upgrading my rig. I need some more power to happily play The Witcher 2, BFBC2, and possibly future proof for BF3. I have (somewhat) decided on:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157248

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103849

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822152245

and

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835106150

The only thing i have not decided on is my GPU upgrade. I am thinking of adding another 460, or buying two 6870s or 560s (non-ti). Would dual 6870/560s be FAR better than dual 460s? Another option is buying a single 570 or 6950. I need some input to sway me one way or another.

My budget is $1,000 and I am very open to suggestions on how to improve this upgrade to give me the best performance for my budget.

Well if you get the AM3+ mobo you'd need to crossfire. Why dont you get the AM3+ mobo but keep your old CPU until bulldozer drops, then upgrade the CPU

The regular non Ti 560 is junk.

The 570 is not worth considering, and I don't think a 6950 would be worth $250 in performance, since the 460 is about 5870 level when OCd.

I would go dual on the 6950s according to this
http://www.overclock.net/graphics-ca...i-6870-cf.html
Sell your 460 to help make up for the extra money.

That is not a bad idea. However, why would i need crossfire, couldn't i just sli hack the motherboard?

By time you buy that Phenom X6 and then replace it with Bulldozer, why not get Sandy Bridge? I'm just asking. If you really want AMD, wait on Bulldozer, unless you're willing to be minus the money the Phenom II X6 costs just to use it for a few weeks or however long. However $1,000 could easily get a Sandy Bridge setup and another GeForce GTX 460. That should be nice for the games you listed.

Since when? It's the same thing as a GeForce GTX 460 1GB overclocked (since it has higher stock clocks). I never knew those were "junk".

For that reason though, there's no reason to get one if you already have what it essentially is. Just grab another GeForce GTX 460 or get something better.

That is a very good point, i only had a 1090T in there because i was trying to save some cash and i almost think a 2500k is overkill for sli 460s. I guess i shouldn't think such things

If i do go with a sandy bridge upgrade i will most likely go with another 460, or i could get some other gpu(s) along with the motherboard i linked and wait for bulldozer.

You probably could, idk how hard it is

I will most likely buy the AM3+ mobo, xfire 6870s, the 2tb hard drive and the Trio now... Then when bulldozer drops, grab a quad or maybe even six core and plop it in my system.

I think this will be a lot more beneficial in the long run than getting a 2500k and sli 460s since dual 6870s are pretty boss

The 560ti is not much more expensive and much more powerful is what I meant.
