A bit new to this extremist deal -

I've been PC gaming for a long time. Have always been a budget build kinda guy. Recently I splurged and built a 2600k + 6970 machine. Now I'm wanting to crossfire my machine. Would an unlocked 6950 provide the same performance as another 6970?

I'm currently running a toughpower 750w modular PSU. Would I need to upgrade? What would you recommend? 850w? (Modular is a must. My wires are very pretty!)

And if I'm not, what is the worst thing that can happen from abusing my PSU? The PSU dies and life is well? Or will things explode in my face and make me want to drown myself in my own sorrow?

doubt any of that. Just have issues when gaming or benchmarking. I always feel more comfortable with a lot more power than I need. Its doesn't break the bank and having a solid PSU is a priority for most. If you upgrade no one will question it. But u should be good with what u got.

Unlocked 6950 should provide near or the same performance, but unlocking isn't guaranteed.

Also if your PSU is of any decent quality it can handle crossfire easy. I can't remember if that was one of the sketchy models by Tt though, some of there psu's are not very good, and a crappy psu can potentially fry multiple components when it goes out.

Well I'd be upgrading soley for gaming purposes. Benchmarking doesn't really matter much to me. I just spent 1800 bucks on 3x monitors so if I *NEED* to upgrade my PSU I think the wife will allow it. However, I'm not sure she's very happy with the neglect she has been recieving due to this new build.

From what I've read, the toughpower is a very, very solid 750w PSU. I'm just iffy about it because of paranoia I suppose.

I would upgrade if I were you... The minimum requirement is around 750w for two 6970's in CrossFire.

I would recommend this 850w: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139009

Alternatively if you want to be extremely enthusiast in the future (past what you are considering now) a 1200w PSU is ideal and this will supply plenty for the future..

I'm pretty set on modular PSUs after experiencing one with this build. The cable management was orgasmic.

Does your Intel board support crossfire?
