Dell U3011 Random Menu Button Blink

First off, this is my second U3011 and it's a refurbished revision A02 unit. The first one had intermittent horizontal artifact lines so Dell sent me this replacement unit. Now the second unit has a random problem where the touch sensitive menu button will randomly light up, the menu does not display just the button lights up for a second. My hands are on the keyboard when it happens and nowhere near the menu button. I had the problem on day one but it didn't occur again until today (which is about a week later). The first day I had the problem I tried moving my speaker and any cables away from it but that didn't seem to do anything. Do you think it could be a weather or heat related issue? Both days were rainy. Also the monitor and computer heat up my room a little when the door is closed, so could it be heat related. Ironically I didn't have this issue with my first U3011. I just was wondering if any of you have experienced this issue on a U2711 or U3011, and if you had any suggestions. Should I be worried and do you think I should contact Dell to get it replaced for a third monitor? It's not a serious issue but it is annoying and distracting, and I shouldn't be having any problems with a $900 monitor (refurbished).

Woah, I had *exactly* the same issue with my original Dell U3011 (horizontal lines and losing sync when certain colors appeared on the left half of the screen) and they replaced it with an A02, which also has this blinking menu LED issue.

It doesn't seem to cause any problems, and it seems to happen randomly. I wonder if the sensor is just sensitive or some some light/shadows are triggering it. But it is really annoying because I see it happening out of the corner of my eye, and on the right side of my U3011, I have a second monitor so it triggers a mental reaction that there's activity on that other monitor.

I appreciate your response. It's good to know others have had this issue. I ended up contacting Dell to get my third replacement. So far I haven't experienced any issues with this third monitor which is also a revision A02, just like my previous one. It just seems unacceptable to me that I had to go through three monitors to get one that worked without any issues.

Did they say what the blinking was, if it's an indication of some other failure? It's enough (not a lot, but enough) of a hassle to do a replacement, and this isn't bothering me that much, that I can forgo a replacement just for this. But if it's some kind of indication that something is wrong (like BIOS beeps or something like that), then it would be worth it to replace it.

I was kind of surprised they didn't want more detail on the original issue when I had the A00 revision one replaced because of the colors causing sync issues.

The only thing tech support told me was to try to reset the monitor (you unplug the display and power cables and hold down the power button for 30 seconds). That didn't fix the issue so I just sent it back. They barely have a clue how to get me a replacement let alone tell me what causes this issue. Hopefully the techs who receive the monitor will be able to figure that out and not send another person a malfunctioning refurbished monitor. I paid big bucks for this monitor so I wasn't going to put up with the littlest of issues. Plus supposedly refurbished monitors only have a 90 day warranty so I wanted to make sure I had a very good working monitor before that expired.

I was having the same issue with the random button blinking. But after time i figure out what my issue was. I have one of those Plasma Balls. And found that when ever I had it turned of the problem when away and when ever i turned it on it would happen again. Not sure if that helps anyone else if you have something similar or something powerful like that around your monitor area.

I also wanted to chime in to help future generations.
I found I was having the same issue if my external hard drive dock (or even speaker) was close to the U3011 power button. Move them 4-5 inches away and you're good...!
