Looking for a good multiplayer shooter

I have become bored with my game collection lately, I used to play Starcraft 2 and was going to come back but my masters ranked friend informed me that the game is currently going through a bit of a balance issue and so that discouraged me. I have played over 150 hours of TF2 since I got it about 6 months ago and have become bored with that. I have upwards of 150 days of play time on wow and have reached a point where the game bores me within a month of re-subscribing. I have BFBC2 but I since most of my friends only play xbox games the squad gameplay aspect leaves something to be desired. Finally, I recently bought Crysis during a sale $7.50, I played through the first few levels of the campaign up to the point where the Koreans got nano suits and then stopped for the night and never picked it back up. To be honest the gameplay simply felt lackluster. Half the reason I purchased the game was for the graphics which, while impressive, caused some serious heat issues with my graphics card(105C during intensive parts, I'm cleaning it tomorrow but thats a different issue). So my question to you OCN, what is a good solo shooter that I can pick up and have fun with, my general thinking behind a game is that I would like to pay no more than $1/hour of gameplay I get out of it, I made an exception with portal 2 because I guess 13 hours of Portal 2 gameplay is pretty close to 60 hours of any other game in terms of sheer enjoyment. Thanks for any help in advance.

TL;DR: Looking for a good shooter with at least 1 hour of gameplay per $1 I spend on it, I prefer multi player shooters. Do not suggest: Crysis, TF2, BFBC2.

edit: No CS or CSS as well.

You want a 'solo' multiplayer game?

Call of Duty. Pick one.

If you're looking for something that deviates a bit from the normal "military shooter" I'd check out Section 8: Prejudice. Just recently came out and I bought it on a whim after reading a thread in this very subforum. The most fun to be had for $15 that I've come across in some time. If you're into jetpacks, futuristic weaponry and armor, deployable mechs and tanks you can pilot, tactical use of radar and jammers, defendng/attacking control points, etc. I'd check this one out.

Again, for $15 its hard to beat the value.

edit: i have no idea what the solo multiplayer thing means

Funniest thing I have read all day. Your friend says there is a balance issue so you just don't play, what would that even matter in the game unless EVERYONE is using it?

For an FPS I would try either CS : S or COD4 or BF2.

If you want a great offline FPS try the stalker series.

I would have to say the FEAR is probably one of my favorites... both of them... they are a little weird but good... the weapons are pretty cool and it has great GFX and AI

There is also an online FEAR multiplayer i think... may have to search for it...

My intent of getting back into starcraft 2 after a break would be to go semi competitive at it within a month or so. Due to a current imbalance with a Zerg Roach/ling all in forcing toss to hard counter or lose to it. I feel it is a waste of my time to push into masters league and then face a balance issue hoping for a fix. Also, I know I wasn't very clear and obviously rambled quite a bit, what I meant by a solo multiplayer was a game where I could play multiplayer but it wasn't completely squad based, I kind of view CoD gameplay like this, you can do well just by doing your own thing. This is the opposite of BF:BC2 where you need a coordinated team effort to win.

no one mentions Section 8 Prejudice? it's one of the best refreshing multiplayer FPS i've played, and it is NOT like so many COD clone crap game.

plays like Tribes 2, Halo, and Battlefield 2 rolled in one.

Wait what? Did you not read any of the replies and assume no one mentioned it?

Anywho, I'm sorta in the same boat as OP, massive collection of games, none of which are drawing my interest at the moment. Although withh Dirt 3 around the corner, That's soon to be over...

As for FPS games... Aside from those suggested, I've been having a ton of fun with Brink, but that game is hit or miss with most people.
