Piloting with a mouse?

Thread Starter
Hey guys, as of lately my new favorite thing to do is to use air vehciles in BF2 & BC2 and I've found that using the arrow keys is better in MOST situations.

The F35 jet in BF2 is actually quite usable with a mouse, but doing sharprolls and trying to doge missiles with the mouse is hard for me. The mouse feels.......a little laggy.

Using choppers like the Hind in BC2, I find it difficult to try and slow down, hover over a large area and shoot at things on the ground all simultaneously. When using the mouse, I just crash. When using the keyboard, I can't aim at all.

So my question is: Is it just a learning curve? Could I get as good as someone using a keyboard while using a mouse? Is it different with BF2 & BC2 (as BC2 is a port)?

I wasn't aware there were people that flew with either mouse or keyboard, thought it was between Mouse+KB and joystick. That being said, even a cheap joystick will probably help you out much more than anything, especially in choppers, as certain maneuvers are just much more intuitive with a stick. Even something old will do, hell I have an MS Sidewinder from like 1998 and it works fine.

You can learn how to pilot choppers in either game with a mouse. Jets are quite a bit trickier though.

I also have never heard of someone flying in a game using either just a mouse OR a keyboard.

I always use my mouse as Roll/Pitch, W & S as speed, and A & D as Yaw.

Granted, a flight stick or even just an analog controller will be better but you should definitely try the combination of keyboard + mouse when flying.

I'm having a hard time grasping how you manage to point yourself in the right direction without using the mouse.

Sorry, I meant I use a mouse to pitch & roll while using WASD for acceleration, and turning. I never use a mouse by itself. The two setups are: Mouse & KB vs. KB.

@thiru I know I can learn how to, I can fly around the map half decently with a Mouse & KB combination. Just wondering if it would be more beneficial to use just a keyboard then Mouse & KB. I am bad at flying so I can't really differentiate between which setup would aid me better once my skills improve.

I use ASWD + the arrow keys to fly.... but then again, I'm not that good.

I only use the keyboard, much easier for me but makes me unable to doge missiles faster and really bad aiming. But i just cant yet do it with a mouse and ive been trying for 8 years now. I can land and fly well but when s*** hits the fan and im being targeted then its tough.
