CPU fan failure error message

First off, I'm an idiot, i'll get to that later. Ok, I have trigen imperial mobo on my really old emachines T2385. I restarted the computer and got this error message "Cpu fan failure, have system serviced immediately, system will shut off if 5 seconds". It does not tell me any way to bypass this. I have tried the delete key and F11 and they bring up a "Setup Initializing..." under the error message, but the system continues to shut off. Now here's where I'm an idiot. I know its not because the system's fans aren't going fast enough because i've tried multiple fans on the computer. What i did last time before i restarted it was connect the wire that changes (or detects) fan speed to two different fans. One of the fans was running straight from the power supply. I may have shorted something... Help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Nick (hope i'm posting in the right section)

You need to make sure your cpu fan is plugged into the fan header near the cpu socket, it will not continue if you do not. If it is connected then check to see if the fan on the heatsink is working.
