How far can a 1090T be overclocked with air cooling with a Noctua NH-D14?

Thread Starter
I'm currently at 4.0 Ghz and 3 Ghz NB with my signature PC. I'm getting a Noctua NH-D14 and am curious if the 1090T may be overclocked further with it.

Currently at 4Ghz CPU and 3Ghz NB it runs hot under stress test with prime95 and is unstable in benchmarks but runs well most of the time in games. It just reboots every couple days or so once but without the temperature ever being over 30°C. I'm mostly on desktop when it reboots.

Thanks.

Most people on here will tell you it depends on the batch. As in, which chip you got and what part of the wafer it was from.

I am not sure what the normal limit of the 1090t is, but my suggestion would be to record your maximum temps under prime95/occt using your current cooler/OC. Then OC it until it is unstable. If the temps rise past 55C-60C~ then most likely your cooler is holding you back. In which case, getting the new cooler will definitely allow your OC to utilize higher voltage gains without sacrificing heat increases.

It all depends on the Ambient temps with air.If my ambients are around 22c,I can run 4.5 no problem. When it is up around 30c,4.3Ghz is my normal clocks. All chips differ also.

With a 1090T?

I have that cooling system and I can tell you it does a great job but I wouldnt push it past 4.3 at most. Ive done 4.3 but I also have central air and the AC was on and keeping things cool in the house. Someone without that I would keep an eye on the system while testing. I currently have it at 4.1 because I've been playing around with the system but its a really quite and I dont hear anything coming from them both.

Hey... I'm running 4-4.100ghz on a stock cooler. Stable since march. It'd be nice to get a 3rd party cooler, don't get me wrong, lol.

Will any of these clocks be fast enough to use a 5870 in crossfire with my 5970 or will the 1090T still bottleneck?
