ATI vs Nvidia questions - Page 2

Have you updated your 4870's drivers lately?
This question gets asked so often and it ALWAYS ends up in flame wars. A search saves time usually.

ATI or Nvidia?
Cant decide, AMD or Nvidia..
Ok guys im facing a dilema... HELP amd or nvidia
Drivers - nVidia or AMD?

To each his own. Regardless what you need out of your GPU both camps offer a good solution with their array of cards.

I'll probably get flamed by someone who disagrees with my statement that both companies are good.

Just give me some idea of the differences guys!

Thanks!
As for chips...Intel is better at gaming due to Hyperthreading. If your not gaming then ball is in your court. That's not an AMD vs Nvidia thing but more of a AMD vs Intel.

Oh ooooo I just picked a side, and away they go.....

Nvidia has higher bus widths but less vram, and ATI has lower bus widths but more vram.
Well that's what I've noticed, but does vary from card to card.

Actually I just updated yesterday, and since I have the computer has blue screened 3 times since. Every time it comes up I ask for solutions and it says that the video card driver has stopped working.

Amd drivers for the loss lol. I had to update the driver to get witcher2 to play correctly now I'm stuck with crashes lol.

I've always been a fan of ATI cards and was looking at doing a 6950 crossfire, but I got to upgrade my board and ram and processor too. I'm currently on the AM2+ chipset. Wish I would have waited a couple months then I could have gotten the AM3 when it came out... doooohhhh.

Okay, so what is BD then? I've liked the cheapness of the AMD processor line so I might stick with them but it all depends if I can finally get a chip that I can overclock. But what is this BD yall speak of? Hopefully it has nothing to do with VD lol.

Reason enough not to get ATI. In the long run, when the 7xxx series rolls out, where would your 6xxx's be? Unsupported, like your 4870, which the 5xxx is slowly becoming.

true true, If I went with intel I'd go with the sli nvidia but then if i went amd I'd go ati... I don't know, it just seem that I'm going to have to wait to see how much I'm going to put into this build... more money = intel less money = amd lol

Yeah. My GTX 260 frequently gave me blue screens. I have yet to get a blue screen from my 6950.

Reason enough not to get Nvidia ; )

There's only a few AMD boards supporting SLI I'm quite sure. Intel boards on the other hand nearly always supports SLI/CF.

And I wouldn't go for an AMD CPU before Bulldozer is out. The BD boards will probably not be so shy on the SLI compatibility.

This is completely untrue. If anyone wants to discuss it, start a new thread, but HT only helps if there's an idle pipeline due to inefficient coding. For gaming, it's actually better to turn HT off and increase the clock speed instead.
