Secondary Monitor Questions

Thread Starter
I have an old dell monitor laying around I want to use as a secondary monitor. I won't use it for gaming, but rather just a monitor for IM clients, browsers, and such.

How would I go about configuring this?

When I'm gaming, how would I be able to move my mouse to my secondary monitor?

which side would the main monitor have to be? I've read somewhere saying that right is always primary. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, will the windows on the secondary monitor be minimized onto the taskbar on my main monitor or on its own?

Thanks guys.

One more question. On my 6870, the top port DVI port says DVI/VGA but the second DVI port says DVI only. If I connect my main monitor which is DVI to the bottom one, and my second using a DVI to VGA adapter to the top one, the main monitor would still be the DVI one right?

Hi Justin,
Setting up a secondary monitor can be beneficial and a lot less frustrating since you can move any file work on the computer back and forth. To answer some of your questions, the right monitor doesn't necessarily always have to be the primary screen. Most times, when you are gaming, the unused monitor wont be accessible at all. Your second monitor can duplicate and have two taskbar but this will only be a duplication. Most time, you can only access one taskbar while you move files around on the second monitor.

You should connect the main monitor to the top DVI and the second monitor to the second DVI. If I remember correctly, it shouldn't matter because you can customize it on your desktop anyways.

I hope this helps answer your question. Good luck.

Would adding a second monitor lower performance?

It should notice some slight drops when gaming.
But it depends on your Setup, ultimately.
I run 2 monitors, i can't say i have noticed much at all, But i don't run games on super high Res =)
