Hello all,

since i'm new to this forum, but have read alot of them, I'll tell a lil'l bit about myself: I live in the netherlands, near arnhem, I'm male and 15 years old.

I was planning to build my first gaming computer (My laptop could run wow maxed out with 5 fps :O, but it crashed, so i'm currently using my mom's), so i have researched alot and now i'm pretty sure i have a lot know-how. I'm waiting for the amd bulldozers to release, and i'm going to buy the 8 core or
6 core depending on their price, or wait until summer break which is a month after the release: there will probably be a price drop by then. I'm planning to get 8 gigs of ram and a amd 6950 (i'm deciding between a gigabyte reference, xfx with center fan or twin frozr II, twin frozr III is nearly the same price as a 6970, so that one is out of consideration. I'll make another thread with my question)

thats all folks, i just wanted to say hello to y'all and introduce myself.

Welcome aboard, thanks for joining... Out of curiousity... if you are a gamer, why go for so many cores? Most games don't even utilize 4 yet

Other than that, sweet deal!

i know, but having those 8 (or 6, depending on the price. Probs wait till summer break, price drop. i guess the 8-core will be 200-250 euros then, and if the 6 core is less than 50 euros cheaper ill get the octocore) and ocing it to... err... i tht the stock clock was 4.5 is ghz? so ocing it to 5.5 or 6ghz idk i'll have to see. i wont go watercooling tho, too expensive, and if i DIY it i might fry my 900 euro build ill put a nice big heatsink on it and two fans

anyway having 8gigs of ram + 6-8 cores allows me to mega-task the **** out of my system.... without slowdown.

prev laptop: single core 1.4 ghz and embedded video XD

also, when an application only uses 4 cores, and i have the 8 core model, it shuts down 4 cores, and transports all the remaining resources to the other core, thus making it a 4 core.

I dont know what the performance of this would be in practice. Guess i'll have to read reviews lol, but i've been waiting for this new cpu since my B-day on the 28th of january, hehe, so i'll buy it anyway
