GTX460 goes hot overnight?

Thread Starter
I got my GTX460 a few months ago. Its a 1MB pny card. I installed it and everything seemed to be great. Bought a new power supply and everything was running smooth. Now its got a few months on it and ive broke it in so to speak with all the latest dx11 games.

I have evga precision to monitor temps and fps. Generally speaking right out of the gate into my pc it ran around 29-32c idle and generally no more than 65c under load even in really demanding games.

Right this second it is sitting at around 48c idle. And in demanding games (the same ones) it reaches on average 74c now. Now as summer approaches and it gets a little warmer i expected it to get a little warmer, but this just seems like a little to much.

I have a stock ASUS pc so coolilng fans and the like havent been installed yet. Im basically just took the side cover off to let out all that hot air for now.

Im just unsure as to why its doing this. Should i be concerned about the big increase in temps or is it something that every card does. I know as time went on my 9600gt got hotter and hotter but that was over years, not months.

I tried overclocking the 460 once but the temps were to high for my liking (70c) and so i set the temps back down to stock with evga precision, besides my monitor only supports 1920x1080 so im not doing any extrememly high res gaming so i dont really need the extra fps. Should i start getting ready for a RMA or is this just the norm with this card? Thanks for any help.

Is it Dusty inside the case?

Check for dust on the heatsink fins as well as in the case, something might block and the airflow or push hot air towards the card.
