msi 6950 twin frozr II or reference design 6950 - Page 3

Ur not getting it .. Its 6 am and must sleep now , will get back to u 2mrw..
BUT, 220->260 is BAD !! THEN get the ref for 220 .. but , the ref WILL NOT UNLOCK ,Not if u havent bought it already.. :/
the newer laser cut chips have been in circulation for the past 3-4 months.. don't count on getting old stock. .
950 stable w/ 1.275 ?? :/ OMG !! I get that w/ 1.23 == big difference..
more 2mrw!

also, is this a reference design card? and is the cooler any better then the original?http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-530-_-Product

EDIT: and lets say i get a card with an original cooler, what sticker should i choose? gigabyte, sapphire, his, fxf, msi... I've read on the techpowerup forum that 100% of the gigabytes unlocked, or doesn't it really matter, just personal taste/warranty?
Thats an old article.. sticker ??? NO! Every company will use their own class of raw materials :/ Else AMD would sell their own :/ --- and now they do so
inconclusive? Look at xfx-- not regarded highly where I live, but they are overclocking friendly!! BUT -- NO company will cover damage if u literally burn their cards w/ heat-- and this CAN be detected -- so a good HSF design and all are vital .. along with the company's repute -- if ur in the states-- xfx it is .. elsewhere , try msi or asus!
GB is known to goof things up at some level..

g'nite
MUST SLEEP!

have a look at the feedback---
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-530-_-Product
says overheating.. google and think , what it means to you and the lifespan of your card--!
also the TF3- provides better power supply to the card and dual bios ( found out by fudging my bios today!) and memory AND aux overvoltage-- simply beating the rest-- they are handpicked to run better then stock-- thus the factory OC , AND just as a better processor usually overclocks higher than a lower 'binned' model , the same with factory OC's ..
The chips going out to these companies-- so called 'stickers' are all the same -- small variations may exist but within a boundary .. you're mileage on OC'ing is NOT limited by the brand -- but if ur paying a premium on a TF3 -its stock OC'd , better OC'ing feature set , better silicon ( it runs @ higher than stock from the factory! just like a better cpu! )
^^ worth thr extra $$ !!

My MSI twin Frozr II 6950 OC is 2 months old, I was able to unlock the shaders, no problem. That, in combination with an overclock gets me a nice performance boost. I can clock it higher but the sweet spot seems to be the settings I have now. Still runs quiet and pretty cool

NICE^

GOOD NEWS! I stand corrected - the 6950 , even a JUNE production unit, the MSI Twin Frozr 3 DOES Unlock! what bliss!!
So did a bit of math -- a 950 core OC w/ 1408 shaders - 875.5 MHz OC w/ 1536 shaders And my OC with the extra shaders is currently @ 910core , 1500Mem !! Well, contemplating going above that , cause Occt is giving me serious issues-- power draw (83C on full fan , ambients 26) and else furmark and Kombustor et all are all good , can't believe the 1500+ on the mem, using VMT to stress it right now - 4 instances !

The tex fill rate sure jumped on the unlock, but didnt see any improvement on the pix fillrate! Attaching pics..

thx all but i still have a q. is the reference still being produced? cuz if not its all original, non laser cut batch, thus guaranteed to unlock

You can keep wishing, or you can buy that card. As far as personal experience goes, I've pulled off 960core 1550vram ( I believe the Vram chips on these are better than stock 6970s! They're rated for 1500 while these are rated at 1600!)
I have YET to experience any artifacting with the memory settings, and I wont even bother over 1550 :/ waste of time .

Thats plenty as it is ..

The whole laser cutting thing MAY have happened -- understand , that in some cards, those shaders are simple unstable, and thus have been turned off in the bios .. flashing may / maynot unlock them, and may just make the card unstable... its a calculated risk ! AFAIAMCONCERNED I paid for a 6950 and am getting > 6970 performance and my temps dont even hit 70 in witcher 2 with the vsync off! Believe that ! have YET to replace the TIM .. think I'll wait a bit!

I wont buy that card till BD comes out. then i'll check prices. if ref is still 40 euros cheaper i'll buy them and unlock / oc to 950/1350 if TFIII has a price drop and is like 20 eur more, ill buy that and oc the **** out of it.

Hmm.. the TF3 's then MAY not unlock -- > I feel MSI had a tie up w/ AMD but didn't get very far -- they had to pull down that guide and bios . But they achieved spreading awareness so a win-win imho.
They've prolly had to do it to avoid maybe an anti-trust legal hassle ! If thats the case, its back to laser cut GPUs to MSI ! So now, or never !
btw, 7xxx just got leaked with the release of the cat 11.7beta .. so I think they're so coming out as scheduled this fall.
You'll never buy a 69xx then ! ! u'll settle for a mid end 7xx instead :/
So this thread's been a waste of time

O well...

Indeed there is a chance of the 7xxx being released this fall, but this is a rumor and its likely to be delayed. amd stated that 7xxx will launch before the end of this year. but I think it'll hit shelves in jan '12. Anyway I'll wait till BD laun this aug and if 7xxx is indeed to hit the shelves this fall word of it will be all over the net by then and then I'll wait... again. I've been waitin' since my BDay on jan the 28th, BD was to hit the shelves in april lol. Waited so long now, might aswell wait a lill longer.
