DirectX 11 no difference? - Page 2

DX11 is not that important. 9 -> 10 at least can do something, but 10 > 11 is not even utlized properly yet.

I LAUGH when OCN members yell at a game because it's not DX11. Why? Why....? It doesn't have to be. DX11 is not that big of a deal


Dirt 2 looks awesome, DX10 or DX11.

look at the rocks in the mines in Witcher 2, i swear they look like tessellation is done with DX11 but it's all done in DX9 somehow.

If you have to "know what to look for" in order to see improvements, that would suggest the improvements aren't that huge

I never said there was a huge difference between DX9 and DX11 used in games. I said there was a huge difference between DX 9 and DX11 and there is. As De-Zant and I said, DX11 isn't even being used properly yet.

BTW, consider how a DX9 game looks. How does Crysis or BC2 look in DX9? They look good. Not great, but good. Graphics had already advanced so far with DX9, that any improvements are much smaller/more subtle. DX9 is relatively close to photo-realism, so there aren't many huge improvements to be done.
But what exactly do tesselation? I also see hardly any improvements when turn on or turn off tesselation. And how exactly work directx, i know that is runtime created by microsoft to support games, but how exactly work?

Well, I don't know much about actual creation of games, but DirectX is an API that supplies developers with some tools for multimedia creation. Tesselation is a new feature which can be used to break up geometry into insane amounts of triangles which allows greater detailing.

An appropriate example imo would be: Take the first launch titles for a console, and take the very last gen of games to come out for that same console, and look at the image quality difference, it's the same deal here, its only begun.

Dx11 is more of an "under-the-hood" improvement. There were certain ways to implement things in older DX version that were more difficult to do (i.e. soft shadows, depth of field, AA in deferred rendering, etc.). Sure there is tessellation, but it is not going to be that much different.
