If this is the standard accepted fact, then why do so many people go into Crysis 2 threads and whine for their DX11 patch?

No, console games do not stay the same on a specific console. Over the first 3 years of the PS3's life, developers learned a lot about the system and optimization got better, therefore improving graphics.

Your idea of how graphics work is wrong, better graphics does not equal worse performance. It's all about optimization.

I do agree with you though, consoles and 720p is holding us back.

Never had a problem looking at DX11 - only getting it to run properly, it's such a hog on resources!

Again, DX11 does not automatically mean worse performance. It's only when developers put a crapload of new features in the DX11 versions of their games that performance takes a hit. If you had 2 identical games, one DX9 and one DX11, both optimized perfectly with their API then the DX11 version would perform a lot better.

I know that much depend on optimalization and that better graphics does not equal worse performance. But this differences in console graphics are very hardly noticable, almost nothing. Only on resuliton depens very much, it i can see very differencse. And yes crappy consoles holding us back. But as i said today graphic of games is very great, that only a few thing in graphic can improve, so you must long stare on games to see an improve, for example in Dragon Age 2, it is not like 20 years ago, there were huge improvements, but now when games have almost photo realism graphic are almost nothing to improve in graphic.

^x3 I agree, e.g Stalkers Call of Pripyat, which offers better performance when DX11 is on. You will notice a lot micro stutter with Dx9.

It does in Metro 2033. Playing in DX10 i get a pretty big jump in FPS. Same goes for Dirt 2 and Bad Comapny 2 (not that FPS is a problem for either of these games).

Tessalation also has quite a big impact on performance - unless i'm mistaken!
