How do i make a flash drive bootable to flash my BIOS? - Page 2

Ok then ^^ you find all these on google very easy, im sorry i can't link, as im at work atm on an ancient pc and won't let me lol.

Step 1: Download the HP USB format Tool
Step 2: Download a win98 startup disc (about 16kb)
Step 3: Run the HP format tool, and at the top of the UI there is a checkbox for "make Bootable", check that and it will let you point to the win98 file.
Step 4: After the format is complete, open up notepad, and type in: (your bios name being your actually file name, the same with the flash exe you got with the rom, eg: Flashutil.exe bios.rom) without quotes.

"the name of the.exe flash tool".exe "yourBiosName".rom /P /B /C /REBOOT

Step 5: Save that as w/e eg: Update.bat, and put it on your USB drive.

Step 6: reboot your machine and boot from the USB drive and when the command promp comes up, type in "Update.bat" without quotes,

Hopefully this should work no worries for you, this is how i've always done it on my last board, GL

5. Insert your Windows DVD in the optical drive and note down the drive letter of the optical drive and USB media. Here I use “D” as my optical (DVD) drive letter and “H” as my USB drive letter.

Btw, i think you had the wrong HP tool, the tool i was talking about is the HP USB format tool, not a boot tool. The format tool , formats drive's but it has an option to make the drive bootable with a startup file.

I've never had an ASRock board, and i don't think i will now after hearing this lol. Your probably just better off to use the .exe in safe mode then, if it lets you run it from safe mode. if you have no other options that is. From what i hear, theres no extra risk in doing it via windows except if your power fails during the flash it can leave your disk messed up, and not only your bios. But don't take me 100% from that, i've never done it from windows before. If ithink of anything else, i'll let you know.

You should have defo been able to use DOS from usb though, wierd board : /
