I think Valve has wanted to focus in other areas. HalfLife is what made them big, and HL2 and Epsiode 2 were phenomenal (episode 1 was pretty lame). Now that Portal 2 has been released, I think they've been able to not only visualize the universe that they wanted to create, but it's provided them insight as to how they're going to tie it in to the final chapter of Half Life, be it Episode 3 or HL3.

Personally, I'm hoping they're completely rebuilding the Source engine, making it better, and then release a full blown HalfLife 3 game.

Perhaps a major tie in with the portal gun or GladOS?

Couldn't say it to be the "Portal Universe". Portals were in HL; that is how all the mess happened. Aperture Science is just a branch from black mesa since the beginning.

Not sure if serious, but Aperture and Black Mesa are competitors and not at all part of one another...

One, gameplay is king. Two, there's just no need to rush it.
I think it has already been way too long for the word "rush" to apply to the release of HL2 Ep.3 in any way, shape or form... even when accounting for Valve-Time.

The days of totally revolutionary games are all over, everything that has been thought of has already been done. So doubt HL3 whenever it comes out would be as special as when the first one came out to an unsuspecting world.

Bleh. My prediction: Valve has been quietly working on a totally new engine for the past year or two (hence the minor Source updates to keep the Source titles alive) and will come out at us with a huge surprise for HL2E3 or HL3 which will also cover whatever plot HL2E3 was supposed to have. They've been way too quiet about the next Half Life release, and Half Life is a HUGE deal for Valve to be that quiet. I expect a new Half Life and new Counter Strike, with Left 4 Dead 3 following closely behind.

Nice thoughts. I strongly feel Half Life will have an amazing tie-in with Portal. Maybe Chell is Gordon's lost-long love that was kidnapped and taken to Aperture as a lab rat? Maybe the portal gun can be used for time travel (with some modding in combination with the gravity gun) and GMan is the future Gordon Freeman, as many suspect. I do also feel that Aperture and Black Mesa are competitors rather than branches of the same research organization.

They are taking so long I even installed the Cinematic Mod today to try it out. That is how desperate I am! In all seriousness, it's not bad, but it doesn't really fundamentally change the graphics.
