Oh, and I did some Googling, and apparently Copeland compressors are recommended to have 20F superheat...I'm not sure if I need to follow that or not.

Hmmm .... I would keep the super heat on the high end of what I gave you . Get the unit working efficiently and don't try to go for "the gold" in one failed swoop . Also , the testing instructions I gave you is what is used on a system using a txv (thermal expansion valve) they should be close enough for a cap tube system such as yours .

Once you get the system working efficiently , then you can start fine tuning for "the gold"

Testing is a HUGE part of the process and skipping steps can lead to frustration

So where do I go from here? I have the system running at about 16-17 superheat when the system is at idle. Ambient temps are about 80F. Compressor shell is neutral to cool, no sweating. Frost halfway down suction line.

You are close enough to "load it up" and re test for ALL the parameters I gave you.
