Help with overclocking to 1866mhz - Page 3

every motherboard has different looking bios so its almost impossible for me to tell you where those settings are. But usually they are in the same page named something like "overclock settings".
first lower the cpu multi, ht speed and cpu-nb. Then increase fsb. now am speed is automatically increased (or higher options have become available for you to select from ram speed list). test the setup. if it runs ok then fine. if not then you might have to increase the cpu-nb speed or memory voltage or both.
yep, every board is different when it comes to ocing capacity. however if you are not looking for absolute high OC values, any good mobo will work for you. lastly, the physical oc buttons are the "Lady Gagas of mobo components", absolutely useless. Even though they do increase cpu speed, they give you no control over it, which is something you must have while OCing.

I have that mb....you can just adjust the ram to 1600 in bios without doing anything else....or...there is an option to auto overclock....first choice in overclock option...switch it to manual and set it up to 15% overclock...it will adjust everything for you....i agree with previous poster that 1866 is probably not going to happen, however 1600 is doable or overclock manually with the 15% option then set ram to 1599 ....fsb will be 230 ,it will adjust voltages and everything for you

Good info in here. +1 rep

Reading this kept me from creating another thread asking about my board that supports up to 2000(oc). I think I'm going to buy either 1600 CL7 or 8 and try to push it as high as my processor will support. It will auto underclock to 1333 if all else fails......correct?

it will fail to boot 3 times then go into a failsafe boot mode at witch point you can make changes...the number of times it fails boot is adjustable also....the max i could get a boot was with 20% auto overclock although i was only playing with it...the cpu plays a big role in what you will be able to do....with a 975be i was only able to get ram to 1600.....the 1100 has a better imc and i was able to achieve speed in my sig

soo basically ur saying if I wanted to up my oc speed to 1866, id have to get a new processor? im sure the bulldozer series would do well right?

can only guess what bulldozer will do....thats what i'm hopping for though .....the chip you have will perform quite well...just up it to 15% overclock then set your ram to 1599 you'll see a big difference....all chips and ram are different some perform better than others but 1866 with a 965 is pushing it hard....now if you reaaaly want to tweak it you can adjust ram timings and increase cpu multiplier and get it screaming....but you got alot of reading to do before your ready for that....but it's all here this is a great site!

I got up to 1872MHz 9-10-9-24 on my 955 (unstable). It's doable. Just have to bump up the FSB to 234MHz and use the 8x mem multiplier.

If it's unstable, increase voltages.

so ur basing the instability on the voltage? hmm, what is the maximum/minimum voltage for a basic 965 ?
