Samsung Fasticnate? Is it good? (New Android User)

Thread Starter
Hey all I am thinking about getting a new phone and the fascinate looks really cool. I just have a few questions. Please any help or advice would be great. Just specify which questions your answering with the corresponding number, thanks in advance.

1. How is the battery life?
2. Is there an extended battery I can buy aftermarket that does NOT need a thicker battery door?
3. Are there themes for the Fascinate?
4.How can I stream line Android to conserve battery?

FYI! This will be my second smart phone, I am a long time Palm user, so coming from webos and using android is really a huge step. Any tips for using android, is great appreciated, I dont really use that many aps, Like I said I was a palm user, and hahaha the webos app store is pretty lame, so I have learned to use my smart phone for basically only GPS, web browsing, email, texting , and phone calling. and some music apps.

Thanks!

My girlfriend has this phone and she loves it. The screen isn't that tough, it fell out of her pocket as she was getting into her car and cracked (about a 2ft drop). (vzw was good to replace it though)

1. Good. Much better than my thunderbolt for sure.
2. The stock battery is 1500mah. samsung also makes a 2200mah battery that is also slim. EDIT: whoops, scratch that, it has to have the bigger door. (its not that much bulkier though, as the fascinate is super thin to begin with). seidio makes a 1600mah slim extended battery too.
3. There are themes, but you would have to root the phone and install them. You can change the look of the gui to a certain degree on stock, but nothing super customized without root access and installing a rom.
4. Uninstall as many programs as you can will save the battery a lot. Also, rooting the phone allows you to install different kernels that are set up for different profiles. i.e. battery life, performance, etc.
5. http://forum.androidcentral.com/ is a good place to start. i'm a member there and anytime I have a question it gets answered quickly, its a good community (second to ocn, of course) they also have a lot of guides for rooting, installing roms, etc.

good luck!

I have the captivate which is really just AT&Ts version of the fascinate and the whole line are pretty nice phones, the battery isn't amazing but if you're not gaming constantly you should be able to get through a day. Themes require a root but rooting is incredibly easy. Android has it's own task manager to help battery life, you can also pickup an app called juicedefender which will actually manage your data radios so they aren't draining on life.
