PSU for my needs.

Thread Starter
Ok here are the specs:

i7 920
2x MSI 6970 Lightning
3 HDDS
1 SSD
1 Optical
4-5 fans

I would prefer modular units (fully modular if possible). I'm looking at Corsair AX 850 right now. Any other suggestions?

EDIT:

Ok I came up with 3 PSUs:

1. Seasonic X850
2. Silverstone Strider Plus 850
3. Corsair AX850

All three are fully modular 850W PSUs. In my opinion Seasonic>Corsair>Silverstone. The real question is Silverstone Strider a good PSU?

Corsair HX750 or AX850 are solid modular units that should be able to handle that load. Also most of the 750's and above listed in this thread should do the job just fine.

Honestly the AX750 would do the job just fine. I ran it with my sig rig and a 6970 + 6950 + 5870 all OC and it powered without any problem. However, i'd say you get the AX850 if you have the extra $. It's never a bad thing to buy something that has a bit of future upgrading proof.

i'm thinking that a good 750w like the seasonic x would be good enough for this particular build

Go for a HALE90 750W. Really good modular PSU with flat wires.

Plus its in white so it will stand out from the pack in color.

i have both of the psus i bolded. Both are amazing and the corsair one has better cable sleeving imo. Performance is pretty much comparable to each other slighty leaning towards the ax.

the strider is not as energy efficient as it's only 80 plus silver. It's still a pretty good psu though. If you have the cash... get the ax or seasonic.. if not then the strider is the next best option

I'd personally go with Corsair because their RMA service is outstanding from my past experience. Since their quality are pretty much on the same par, the next thing i would look into are the warranty length and the RMA service.

Your opinion is not fact smile.gif Seasonic makes corsair and Silverstone's models. They are all equal, and the Strider/Strider Plus are all very good power supplies. Even if overpriced.

EDIT: The 750W or 850W model of the Strider Plus would do great if you wanted to pay a little extra. Otherwise get an AX850 or something Seasonic (even though they all are, really tongue.gif)
