Hey, Manyak, Michael Strahan called, he wants his gaps back!!

Also, your little statement at the end there about three CRTs (I don't care how "high-end" they might be), is so much fail, I threw up a little bit in my mouth and killed a whole family of bunny rabbits.

LCDs are slimmer, sexier, produce less heat, draw less power, AND LOOK FRIGGIN' FRICK' FRICKING BETTER THAN ANY CRT THAT ANYONE....ANY-FRIGGIN'-ONE--CAN PRODUCE!!!

...especially for Eyefinity/Surround.

I may be 22 but I remember when you had win95 running on a 17in monitor that weighed 50 lbs. Those were the good old days. I still keep 2-3 CRTs around just incase I need an extra for lanning at my house or want to use more than 2 monitors.

Anyone who knocks on CRTs never had the joy of driving miles with one in your front seat just to lan with a friend.

@OP, if they're nicer/bigger CRTs, say, at least 19" and 1600x1200 minimum, I say they're worth something. If they're just typical CRTs, even I wouldn't bother.

I buy a monitor for how what it displays looks like, not what the monitor itself looks like. I'm not saying LCDs look bad or anything, mind you, rather I'm just pointing out the irony in your argument. I couldn't help but notice that four out of five of your reasons (and that fifth was a general statement, nothing specific) generally fell back to "the monitor itself looks better". Well, okay, but what about what the monitor itself displays? That is it's primary purpose. That should be your argument. I get a monitor to stare at what it displays, not it itself...

It's a case by case thing, and subjective too.

In my opinions...

LCDs are generally sharper and have more clarity, especially for text. I prefer CRTs, and the sharpness of an LCD can make a CRT owner envious even if they don't admit it. They're also smaller and lighter, and do use less power (though it's probably not quite as much less as you're thinking). They have no geometry issues.

CRTs are much more flexible with resolution, have no ghosting/response time/input lag issues, no color shifting/viewing angle issues (this drives me up the wall as I am super sensitive to color shifting), and generally have better colors (especially versus the all too common 6-bit TN, but I've heard newer top end ones are rivaling or even passing the best CRTs, of which I haven't seen myself). They are subjectively/arguably better for images (remember how LCDs are sharper? The slight blur of a CRT's pixels sometimes lends to better blending for images).

I imagine many people never had/seen a good CRT, rather instead just something like your typical lower end one. Of course if you judge your shiny new LCD versus your old 1024x768 17", it's going to be a bit lopsided. I could do the same and compare my CRT to a bad LCD, which I have done, but I don't swear all LCDs off as garbage because of it.

I prefer CRTs, and while there's aspects of LCDs I can't quite get over, I don't say they're trash or that CRTs are objectively better, so your arguments are quite lacking (again, since 80% of your reasons fell back to what the monitor itself looks like and not, you know, what image the monitor produces looks like, which is it's very function).
