I used to be very active in the F@H forum back in the day, but lately it hasn't been so.
Now that i'm a moderator in this forum, i've been looking at it a bit more. It's come to my attention i don't recognize anyone!
I'll try not to sound ancient here, but i remember very well when we were folding on dual and quad cores, running VMWare in the Linux SMP client. The latest and greatest folding machines were the 8800GT, which got about 4,000 points a day! That was better than almost any CPU could do, there was no bonuses!
I started folding back in 2008 i believe, and it's been slow and steady ever since. I've really never folded on more than one piece of equipment. Started out with my trusty E8400, then when the GPU client came out (CUDA was new!), the 8800s hit the folding market full force. I later upgraded to a GTX 260 core 216 and got 7-8k ppd i believe. Now i'm on a GTX 460 and still only getting 11k ppd.
Over the past 3 years i've got about 4.9 million points. That's on less than 10k ppd for the most part..i'm about to break 5 million.
At one point I was in the top 100! And i never quit folding, everyone else just is faster than me
The past year or so I haven't even checked my stats hardly. I leave the console client open most of the time, that's about it. Couldn't care less about the points to be honest.
So how many of you are old timers? Remember nitteo and how he crashed the OCN servers when big news sites linked to us? Remember WINNING the Chimp Challenge? Remember when EVGA and us were neck and neck? Remember barnettworks, mortimersnerd (nothing against zodac obviously!), the ORIGINAL team competition, and VMWare? The days when OCN as a whole was doing a million points a day, and that was awesome? The days when bigadv didn't exist, bonuses didn't exist, and the only way to get massive amounts of points was getting massive amounts of GPUs, SMPs, Blade servers, or all of the above?
I can't be the only one
