The interesting way my cousin's GPU's stopped working.

I just got back from my cousins house, and he told me one of his GPU's burned out for a stupid mistake he made:

My cousin bought 2 HD 5xxx series GPU's last year. He put them into Crossfire and they ran perfectly until a couple days ago.

A couple days ago, one of the cards just completely stopped working, and there was no way to fix it. After 2 days of thinking, he realized what it could have been: he bought a $2 crossfire bridge off of eBay shipped from China, and it was not an original.

Is there any way that crossfire bridge could have burned out the card or was it just a bad card?

yea maybe the bridge was wired wrong, or had a short in it.

Easy way to find out, run each separately through stress tests. If you can, test it with an actual Crossfire cable, not a cheapo look-alike.

The other one won't even work, not even by itself. It just doesn't function at all. The motherboard beeps when it is placed inside, but the other one boots up just fine.

That's sad but I guess the card has shorted. You should email that seller...maybe you can get an arrangement. Usually ebay power sellers would do anything for positive feedback... You could also try reaching the manufacturer of the card see what they can do...

Btw, I love your avatar In Flames is a great group, listening to em atm

Just listening? I'm playing Moonshield on my guitar right now . I'm seeing them again this summer when I go to Sweden to visit family, can't wait!

Also, the company that sold the bridge says it was not their responsibility. It was his because "you installed it the wrong way"...

Also, the cards were bought used from eBay. Could the warranty still work? I believe they are XFX cards but I am not entirely sure.

I'm learning Man made god on electric guitar lol...great instrumental song

As for XFX, they offer lifetime warranty on pretty much all their cards. You could try contacting the seller of the cards and make an arrangement with him for RMA. If you can get the info he used when he registered the cards (which he hopefully did...) you could probably get an RMA and a replacement card sent to your front door...

Thanks for the great info, Rep'd. Will tell him to contact XFX.

so what was he using to crossfire the 2 cards together before the "new" bridge?
