Well they're completely different designs from completely different OEMs for starters.

If anything the Earthwatts Green should have lower DOA/QC issues, being made by Delta Electronics. I wouldn't swear to them being better quality-wise, but I can say for sure that they definitely aren't worse than NeoECO and HCG on that front.

Speaking of, NeoECO and HCG are almost the same power supplies. Both of them are built on SeaSonic's S12II and S12II v2 platforms. The major difference is that HCG has better capacitors and a nicer finish.

NeoECO 400C is based on the older version of the SeaSonic SS-400ET (the version used until 2010), down to the last component. It's also internally identical to the old Corsair CX400.

The HCG-400 is based on the slightly efficiency boosted SS-400ET used today. It's basically the same thing, just a few upgraded components for higher efficiency. Again, higher quality capacitors, fan, and finish.

The NeoECO 520C and 620C were built on an early version of the S12II v2 platform (a platform unrelated to the original S12II but sold under the same name in 520W and 620W versions--it's a step up in performance). The platform was later finalized and released to retail with higher efficiency and tighter voltage regulation. Antec/SeaSonic may have switched NeoECO over to the final version and just not told anyone; but until someone does a side-by-side comparison that's just speculation.

The HCG 520/620 are based on the retail version of S12II v2, with better capacitors, fan, and finish.

phaedrus, i'm deciding between the Antec HCG 620 vs the Seasonic S12II 620. i understand that the antec is a rebadged s12II. are they exactly the same or does the antec have cheaper components (cheaper capacitor, etc)? in your last statement, are you saying that the HCG 620 has better capacitor compared to the seasonic s12II (or compared to the NeoECO)?

thanks

You should have made a thread for yourself.tongue.gif

The HCG is based off of the S12II V2 where as the Seasonic unit is the first version so yes the HCG would be better.

Also I would go for the HCG just because I have never dealt with Seasonic before but I have with Antec and they have been great.

As far as we know, the HCG 520/620 still has better capacitors and a better fan (and a better finish). It's based on the retail version of the S12II V2 while the 520W and 620W Neo ECOs are probably still based on the earlier version of the S12II V2 which doesn't have those better capacitors and a better fan.

However, Phaedrus2129 wrote that back in May, so the 520W and 620W Neo ECOs on the market today could now be the retail version of the S12II V2 (the one that has the better capacitors and better fan).

Internally, both the 520W and the 620W HCGs are the retail version of the S12II V2 (the one with the better capacitors and better fan).

The Neo ECO was (and may still be) based on an earlier version of the S12II V2 which has slightly inferior capacitors and does not have that better fan.

Therefore, the 520W and 620W HCG should still be better than the Neo ECO due to being the newer, updated and "Retail" version of the S12II V2 which has the better capacitors and the better fan.

my biggest concern is reliability of the power supply. if you had to choose between the antec hcg 620 vs the seasonic s12II v2 620, which would you choose?

They are both pretty much EXACTLY the same so you need to base this off of customer support. I have never dealt with Seasonic but I have with Antec and they are WONDERFUL.

They're identical. The only difference is their outer appearance.

It is a very solid PSU that even I would confidently trust to power my system.

based on my internet search, i've read some conflicting reviews:

at tomshardware, the user "delluser1" says that the hcg 620 has cheaper capacitors:
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/313956-28-looking-500w-600w-range

"seasonic S12II 520-620w best value without a rebate at the moment
antec HCG 520-620w (seasonic platform) < same as above with lower grade caps, out of contention "

then http://www.hitechlegion.com/reviews/power-supplies/10270-antec-hcg-620-power-supply-review?start=5
-says that the hcg620 has a better and larger fan 135 mm

and http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Antec/HCG-620/4.html
-says that hcg620 is a rebadged seasonic s12II 620, but doesn't go into detail if it just the design is the same and whether or not the components are different/cheaper.

sorry for harping on this decision, but i'm just trying to get the most reliable psu.
