How did you fix the BFBC2 crashing issue? - Page 4

When I play next, I will grab the list of processes running on mine with MSI Afterburner and GPU-Z in the background, as you requested. Hopefully EA will compensate you with a voucher / free game(s). Of course, that doesn't fix the problem and you'll still be crashing in BFBC2, which if it's a major game for you, you have great reason to be pissed off. Honestly, too many people have too many problems with it and not with any other game to blame the users' computers.

Mine crashes to desktop all the time but not as much as of late. Besides the unscoping and terrible lagg ( Rubber banding ). Now they want us to pre order BF3 built on the same engine, when they cant even get frostbite 1 right.

You're right, I'm sceptical myself. I really, really enjoy BFBC2 and I know BF3 will be stunning online, but I honestly have my reservations to the game truly being out of Beta once it's released (or a year after for that matter). DICE knows how to make the Battlefield series great, but they also seem to pop out a lot of weird bugs, some of which they never fix and just state that they're too hard to fix.

Thanks for that.
Unfortunately BFBC2 is probably the only game that I actually play.

Update from EA support:

Response to my original email
Quote:
Hello Kiwi,

Thank you for writing to Electronic Arts customer support.

We do apologize for the inconvenience you're experiencing with the game.

Please accomplish the following before launching the game:

1. Empty your Temp folder to prevent file conflicts. Click here for steps on emptying your Temp folder:
http://eaclassics.custhelp.com/app/a...20temp%20files

2. Please end all background tasks to prevent conflicts with other programs. Click here for steps on ending background tasks:
http://ea-old.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/e...?p_faqid=10700

3. Be sure you have the latest drivers available for your video and sound card.

http://ea-old.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/e...?p_faqid=10711

If the trouble still persists, please send us a copy of your system information which is taken from the DXDIAG program. To do this:

1) Go to Start -> Run.
2) In the box, type the following: dxdiag
3) Click 'OK'
4) Click the 'Save All Information' button on the first screen of the application.
5) Then on top of the 'Save As' box that pops up, select Desktop (if it's not set to save there already), then click Save.
6) Finally, attach the dxdiag.txt to your email reply.

Once we get the Dxdiag, we'll take a look and let you know what to do from there.

If there is anything else we may do to assist you please let us know.

Thank you,

Phillip
EA Online Support
Needless to say I was slightly disappointed in the lack of support.

My response
Quote:
Hi Phillip, thanks for the response:

1. I have just emptied out my entire temporary folder and ran the game. I ran the game as I normally would have, including GPU monitoring utilities in the background. It seemed to be funning fine for about ~20 minutes (longest consecutive time the game has been open without crashing), though unfortunately it still hard-locked with a looping sound in the same manner described in my first email. It froze, the sound looped indefinitely, and the only option I had was to hard-reset my computer.

2. The issue described is a conflict between a running program on my computer and BFBC2. I have the option of closing this program to avoid this specific problem whatsoever, though this is a workaround--not a solution. I'd like to emphasize that I was able to have a GPU monitoring utility open in the background prior to 4/9/2011 (date of second most recent Punkbuster update).

In addition, even without any excess programs open, I still get a soft-crash to desktop with a continuous looping sound. I have tried closing other programs besides my GPU monitoring utility, as mentioned in my first email.

3. Also as mentioned in the original email, I do have the latest drivers for all my components. My graphics card is an ATI Radeon 5850, with the most recent Catalyst 11.5 drivers. My sound card is an Asus Xonar DX, and I have the most recent 7.12.8.1792 drivers for that as well.

Attached to this email is a DxDiag.txt report.

Thank you,
Kiwi

It seems that there is a transition from where a small company becomes a very large one. When this happens, more useless staff is employed, the staff generally care less or not at all regarding their actual job, staff know nothing of what the company truly does or what to do when customers complain, scripts get read out over the phone or reiterated via e-mail and customers are put through ridiculously mind-numbing loops that one has to jump through to get any kind of somewhat decent support.

I've honestly not dealt with a single large company here in the UK that doesn't have all of these problems with customer service. Their products also tend to lack in quality as they transition from "let's make a good product that people like and buy" to "let's make sure people keep buying whatever we have so we have a large turnover".

Anyway, sorry, rant over. I just despise large companies for their lack of expertise and customer care. EA is a prime example.

Try lowering the sound quality within settings.ini in the BFBC2 folder.
Okay, guys. I'm running on a fresh install of W7Ux64 (pulled the trigger on a format last night just for this issue), Newest video drivers, New sound Drivers (kicking myself for not saving the EQ settings), empty temp folders, new PB, brand new BC2 download from EADManager.

My SLi hack worked before, but now it is not turning on, but one 580 should work just fine. Afterburner off, No OC.

I will report my results after 3 hours of game play. If I'm back before then, I apologize for the imminent cursing and raging.
