Thread Starter
I am currently up for an upgrade with AT&T. I have had the Captivate for almost a year, and I love it. I have it rooted with a custom ROM (Cognition 4.3), as well as other customizations.(Launcher Pro, WidgetLocker, custom theme and colors)

It's really a nice phone. I guess the only things I'm looking for in an upgrade is a flash for the camera. A front facing camera would be nice too, but there really aren't any things about the phone that make me NEED an upgrade. It's more of an itch.

So, if I go through AmazonWireless (which I did for the Captivate) I can get the Atrix for $100. The deal with AmazonWireless though is their "Instant Discount Policy'. You have to either keep the phone in service with the account it was purchased with for 6 months, or if you don't use the phone, you just basically can't sell it before the 6 month period is up, because if the phone gets used on an other account before the 6 moths, you'll be charged $250. I can also get an HTC Inspire 4G for only $30 as an upgrade, along with that same Instant Discount Policy thing.

The Atrix has the dual core and larger resolution(960x540) with the same size screen as the Inspire(800x480). The Inspire has a flash as does the Atrix, but the Atrix has a front facing camera. I'm not really interested in the Atrix accessories, but it's nice to know they are out there.

Basically I wanted to know if any of you guys (and gals) have done a similar upgrade, and felt whether it was worth it. My other option is waiting until my contract is up with AT&T, and possibly going with Verizon for an HTC Thunderbolt.

So what do you think? Worth it, or no?

Adding a Poll, be patient!

You know, I voted for the Inspire 4G in the poll, but I did so ignorantly.

Now that I've read your post and you are familiar with rooting your phone, and actually enjoy the results, I would say that you should go with an Atrix. The Atrix with Motoblur is known to be very 'laggy' (unless they've had a major update) but if you root it and get rid of that interface, it's supposedly a very very fast phone. The screen of the Inspire 4G is nice, but when it's the difference between 4" and 4.3", it's not as big of a difference as say an iPhone screen (3.5") and the Inspire 4G screen.

Also, you may not think the laptop dock for the Atrix is useful, but even with Motoblur, it was enjoyable to use. I couldn't imagine a rooted Android 3.0 with the laptop dock. It would surely be a huge competitor to any netbook.

i guess it depends on how important screen size is to you. i went in initially to att to check out the atrix, but walked out wanting the inspire. i know its only a .3" difference, but side by side, the inspire was a lot bigger looking, and eventhough the atrix has better resolution, i didnt notice a difference. i would suggest the inspire, or if you want to spend a little more, the infuse is a beautiful phone.

i had the inspire for a couple days, and returned it for the infuse. i actually went back to the store to get a case, and ended up walking out with a new phone... now i have a case and screen protectors i cant use. guess thats the breaks for getting a new phone after ordering crap for the old one. totally worth it though.

I have only heard bad things about the Atrix from anyone attempting to do anything beyond stock, it is a royal pain. That stupid dock which has absolutely nothing inside of it is also like $200. With everything I've heard about it I wouldn't even trade my Cappy for Atrix, let alone buy up.

But by itself, the Atrix feels VERY smooth even compared to my Inspire/Desire HD. I just froze some Blur services in my dad's phone and it became absurdly faster even without having to use GingerBlur or GreyBlur custom ROMs. I'd imagine it would be at its best when the bootloader is finally bypassed.

I say don't bother switching until the bootloader is cracked, then go for it if the hardware upgrades are of significant importance to you(for most people they aren't tbh).

GS2, The Atrix is actually slower than the Cappy, well at least yours.

Which will NEVER happen. The bootloader will never get unlocked until Motorola says so.
Motorola is getting kinda Appleish with their anti rooting stuff the advantage they have over apple is people can choose different phone and the community working on their phones is smaller which means far less chance of them getting cracked.
