HD 555 Imbalance?

Thread Starter
I've owned my HD 555s for around 8 months now, and I'm noticing that the left side is "clearer" than the right.

Especially at higher volumes. It's like I can hear more music in the left, it's not just louder...it's better. Any reason for this?

I own Z2300s (sigh, I know) and I notice the same effect. The left side seems to get louder/clearer at low volumes, but when I turn it up it evens out?

As long as you bought them from an authorized dealer, you should be able to send them in for RMA. Email them and check.

Don't take them apart, you void the warranty. If the problem lies within the driver and not the cabling, you won't be able to fix it yourself. Not easily at least.

By "authorized" you mean them directly? I got them on sale from ExpoElectronics.com or something. And I don't know headphones that well so I'm not going to open them :/

Your best bet is to email Sennheiser directly and ask if they(Expo) qualify as an authorized dealer.

Did you try the 555s with different sources (like an mp3 player) or only on one because it could be the source problem (if your speakers exhibit similar problems)....

Yeah, I would check the source.

Alright, I just tried it on my sansa clip. On my laptop, it seemed like a 5-10% difference, and now it's more like 3-5%. It's very very slight, but still somewhat there. Much more livable.

I know onboard laptop is a horrible audio source, but my clip can't be much better can it?

And would a headphone amp help this, or is the source bad regardless of external additions?

Headphone amp won't help much with HD555s.

And the sansa clip is regarded as one of the best sounding MP3 players that consumers easily have access to. Of course, this all depends on what kind of files you put in it.

Well the clip is quite decent... Can you borrow any onther headphones and check if you notice any imbalance?

Also you could try adjusting the left and right channel in your control panel for sound that could be a quick fix

An amp wont help with a crap source if the audio going in it is bad it will come out even worse beacuse imperfections will also be amplified

Yeah, I knew one of the major setbacks of switching from desktop to laptop would be poor audio source

Is the clip really that decent? Would I notice a difference between FLAC and MP3@320kbps? With my desktop + Xfi card I could tell and it was really sweet
