well I think I will go with the ASUS DirectCUII one since its supposed to cool better with less noise. It's pretty huge but my case can handle it

My personal favorite would be the MSI Lightning version. Great cooling, awesome overclocking potential and not loud. And to put icing on the cake they're releasing an Extreme version of the MSI Lightning that will feature the 3GB VRam versions (although it has a hideous color scheme IMO).

Guys, what do you think, will there ever be GPU water blocks for the Lightning Series?

@ OP, go w/ the Lightning or Xtreme if you can wait & buy another or two U23. How much is a U23 this days, $280+?

The GTX 580 Lightning which is the TFIII version is best.

As for the 3GB version you would be future proofing yourself if you decide to go with a larger than 30" monitor or surround with multiple monitors and start gaming at greater than 1920x1200 resolution. Otherwise it won't matter the extra vrm.

So it's what you think you'll end up needing or upgrading to. Your PSU is no problem.

The ASUS DCUII GTX 580 is a good card as well, but it takes up to 3 slots width and you will be shutting yourself out of going SLI later down the road. If you don't think your going SLI anyway, then the ASUS will be a fine card as well.

On Tuesday I will be able to compare the noise levels of the GTC580 Lightning to the Asus DCII that I have on my 570, which is the same cooler as on the 580, for you. Even before I do the direct first hand comparison though I can already tell you that if you are looking for quiet then the Asus DCII will not disappoint you, it's incredibly quiet. In the mean time here is one of my favorite review site's measurements of the noise levels of both cards MSI Lightning and Asus DCII, I should note that even though TPU has the Lightning listed as louder than the reference I believe I have seen other reviews that say it is a little bit quieter than the reference design, I just don't remember where I say them and TPU is my go to review site 90% of the time.

EDIT: I'm the slowest typer out of the five people watching this thread right now LOL flipping
