Newbie in overclocking

Hey guys. My computer has been showing some signs of lag, and I mean fps lag in games and much more slowness is responding to programs and others than it used to be. I thought overclocking would help fixing that but I've never OCd in my life and my knowledge about it is 0 .

Here are my specs:

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5200+ 2.7 GHz
ATI HD 4600 Series
ECS GF8100VM-M5
Lc-Power LC 420H-12
Western Digital 500gb Sata2 7200 Rpm 32mb Buffer
3,00 GB RAM
TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S203B ATA

I've seen allot of programs for OC but which one to go for? What do actually do? How much can i OC my processor to? I'd appreciate if you could explain me step by step how to do it.

Read up on some AMD stickies for overclocking help. Also I wouldn't OC an ecs board and I would deff upgrade your system. This day in age, OC something that old isn't really going to give you any benefits.
