GTX 260 on GA-H55M-UD2H. Some assistance for PSU please

I'm not sure whether to ask this on video card forum, motherboard, or power supply forum... But here goes.

I just recently ordered an EVGA GTX 260 Core 216 for my comp that uses the GA-H55M-UD2H mobo. All my thinking was going well to choosing a good PSU until I read that most good PSUs have multiple 12v cables/rails. And that that meant I can't feed all the amps unto my mobo that has only one 12v PSU slot.

I've read that the core 216 GTX 260 is very power hungry so even though the minimum required PSU is 500w, that I should get something larger. But all the larger ones use the multiple 12v rails >.<

I'm very confused as to which PSU I should use with this card and my current mobo. Is there any good +500w PSU that can power this card and mobo using a single 12v rail? Halp haalp moi!

TDP for the 260 is 182W so with an i3 a decent 400W PSU would handle that system pretty well

Edit: after googling, the i3 at 4.4 is about equal to an i5 750 in power consumption so 95W. You'd be fine on a 300W if it's got a decent 12V rail. What's the max current on the 12V rail of your current PSU?
I'd still probably get a 350W or 400W PSU personally

A very overclocked i3. I'm almost sure that 300w would be far too risky. Plus the card need *2* PCIe power connectors. My current cheap 300w PSU doesn't have any.
I was looking at the eXtreme Power Plus 500W but it only have 1 PCIe cable and the 12v I don't understand it at all. Then the 600w one has 2 PCIe, but 2 12v rails. While the 550w one is the cheese between two buns, exactly the same as the 600w one but with 50w less.
So really I'm stumped... I don't want to have to buy a new mobo to use this card... =( The 260 is fairly old so i doubt that it was designed for use on mobos two 12v slots.

Take a look at Corsair, Seasonic and Antec PSUs. OCZ got some decent ones as well.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341016 Good deal going atm.

I don't recommend the Corsair CX series; they don't deliver their rated wattage and are not 80 Plus Certified.

Corsair CX600, its basically perfect, fairly cheap, it runs my i5 760 at 4.4 ghz and a 1ghz GTX460 easily.

I looked at your mobo compared to mine and that psu you mentioned. Your modo has the 8 pin 12v slot while mine only has 4. The psu you mentioned has the 8 pin but supposedly it can be split into 4 pins. Is this the same as the two 12v rail issue? Would it cause my system to lose power?

You seem to have a totally wrong concept about 12v rail,
"I can't feed all the amps unto my mobo that has only one 12v PSU slot."
reading by this I came to understand you are mixing one thing with another.
Who told you that single 12v rail psu are bad?
Corsair is one of the best psu maker & none of their psu use multi 12v rail...all of their psu's have single 12v rail,so both single & multi rails are equally good.
For your setup corsair gs600/vx450/seasonic s12II 520 are the best option.
Hope you like my help

Hmmm ok so I guess doubt left is... If the PSU has an 8 pin 12v rail and my mobo only has the 4 pin slot, I can simply split the PSU one and plug 4 of the PSU pins into the slot, leaving half of the rail hanging and everything will be fine? There won't be any power issues?

No,there wont be any power issues, generally in high end mobos the 8pin cpu connectors are available, most of the mobos consis of 4pin cpu connectors.
Hope this helps.
