ClearSky

I tried to get into SOC but just couldn't. I think because mainly I like FPS and didn't like the interface of the game. Only RPG I think I ever finished was Fallout 3. I really want to try to get into this series so how much different is ClearSky/ The reviews say it has more GRAW action. I don't know what that is? Anyways since it's only $9.99 on Steam I think I'm going to get it. Can I mod the Steam version?

Have you played SOC? I have played all three and nothing sucked me in like the first.

I believe GRAW is referring to the 'Tom Clancy: Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter' games (never played them).

Although steam deals are tempting, I've learned that buying the next in a series to something you didn't like, is usually not a good idea. If you didn't like SOC, I don't think you will like Clear Sky. I mean user interface is cleaned up a bit as well as the Hud and navigation but it's still quite similar. According to many, Call of Pripyat is the most polished game but again not really an FPS and no combat assist like Fo3. I would say get that one if you want to try it again. And get the Complete Mod if it's out for that one.

Clear Sky is usually considered the worst of the 3, SoC and CoP are both amazing though. The games are a bit difficult, especially SoC, you get dumped into a dangerous world with near nothing, CoP you start out with some gear so its a bit more friendly to start, plus updated visuals and some nice new things.

Modding really gets the games going though, complete conversions as well as the Complete 20xx Series of mods for the games polish them up very nicely, highly recommended.

Edit: Yes Steam version is moddable, I think I had to download a special tool that extracted the files into normal folder structure though.

Like others said, if you didn't like SoC you're probably won't get along with Clear Sky. It's the worst of the series - but yet a great game IMO.

If you're looking for a fast paced "shoot the hell out everything that moves" FPS i guess stalker isn't the way to go. It's one of those games where you walk and plan a lot more than you shoot.

That said, I think those are some of the best games ever!

Let me preface by saying that a vast number of people get turned off before they are able to "get into" the STALKER series, specifically SoC. The game is hard and cumbersome until you get further into the game, then it becomes amazing.

What do you mean when you say you didn't like the interface?

Clear sky introduces a whole new artifact hunting style, and weapon and mod upgrades, however the HUD, inventory and all that is largely the same. All the STALKER games are VERY similar in the way that they "work" or interface.

Thanks for the replies. I had SOC modded with Complete 2009 ( I think that one) I was just looking at Game Guides to see where I was but didn't even see it their. I know I wasn't super far into it. I was on my second go round a some building and I keep getting my but kicked. I just couldn't get out of their. I'm sure I will reinstall it some day and try again.

From looking at GameGuid looks like I should read that. A lot of stuff to learn about the game. Sometimes I just have no patience.

Well if it's any consolation it took me about 5 tries to get into SOC and I made it 90% of the way through and then put it down and totally forgot where I was or what I was supposed to be doing. Really dug the atmosphere but not so much the "Game Over" getting mauled by dogs or the monolith dudes. I tried Clear Sky and thought...just...can't...do this again.

I have all 3, almost through Clear Sky, don't want to play the others until that is done. I have left it be for now though, I find it's a good game that can exhaust you a bit so just leave it alone a while and come back.
