The Witcher (1) - Essential mods?

Hi all.

With the release of it's sequel, i've decided to purchase a copy of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition via Steam, considering it's price would've dropped.

The Witcher is a series i'm completely unfamiliar with, so i'm looking forward to the experience.

However, as i almost ALWAYS will attempt to modify the game (as i do with all my titles) i would like to ask; what mods are essential for a first time player?

Graphical mods? overhaul mods? (provided it stays within the lore of the game)

Hell, this is assuming that there is a mod community for this title!

Anyway, any feedback is appreciated

There are high-res packs for the environment and characters. However, I don't know how much better the game looks with it since I never went without.

Also, there's a tiny "mod" that lets Geralt meditate, use cat-eye, and store items any time. Unless you don't want these conveniences, I'd recommend it.

Those are the main two I used; I'm sure there are many more. You should also download the Director's Cut patch to get the... full experience.

Hmm, isn't the Director's Cut patch automatically used when buying the game now? I think when EE first came out, it didn't come with the DC patch but I think the online versions have the DC patch already patched in.

cheers guys.

And yeah the version on steam contains the "Directors cut"

I'm guessing this contains adult material somehow? (product description implies that)

Also, because i'm using a Steam version it won't cause any problems will it?

I doubt it. The Witcher uses an Override folder for changes, so you'll just have to make sure the mod files end up in the right spot.

Yeah I love the "stuff" mod. Accessing the bank at any time was a life saver.

Anyone still have this mod that they can kindly upload and share?? The official forums are taken down so I can't find them anymore. I checked everywhere and couldn't find them either........

The Witcher was (and still probably is) one of my favourite RPG games of all time, and I remember using that mod which is a must have.......unfortunately I didn't make a backup of it, and now that The Witcher 2 came out i'm hoping to play through the first game again to refresh my memories before playing the 2nd.......but i can't play without that mod, it makes it so annoying without it.

There's a great sticky in the fourm listing all mods, and it's not a god long list like Oblivion or DA:O, totally a breeze to go trhough). Hopefully they'll bring the fourm back up again soon (and not empety).

I wouldn't recommend using that pack in your first playthrough, for the obvious reason that it changes the original gameplay design. The other mods mentioned in this theard are great, however for the Black Edition, there's an alternative version called Inferno Edition which I think is the better looking one (well, I did ask for it rolleyes.gif). I also recommend playing on hard (you'd die from time to time, but it has a similar learning cruve to that of TW2 and makes alchemy a must, as it should be).

Also there is one mode that changes Geralts face (puts a 3-cuts scar on the neck and lessens the scar going over the eye). Makes him look better and also closer to lore.
