Jolicloud 1.2 OS, not like the others

Thread Starter
I installed the new Jolicloud OS and I really like it! Especially after Ubuntu screwed us with Unity (/shivers). It has that netbook like feel to it without any lag. Really nice. Really smooth. Works incredibly fast on old PCs. If you have the Chromium browser on any other OS you can use it to open your Jolicloud desktop. The desktop is entirely Chromium, which sounds scary at 1st, but is executed quite well. Yes, the back of the OS is Ubuntu and yes the back of the DE is Gnome, but you can't tell. Its pretty much exactly what Google is about to release for there own OS.

Just wanted to share, for you Ubuntu guys who are now ready to jump ship... or anyone thinking of checking it out.

Yeah, sounds terrible, but its execution is near flawless. It starts really fast, which surprised the bejebus out of me on this 5 year old Compaq I'm running it on. Any noob can use this OS with ease... to prove this I put it on my wifes HP Netbook (an older mini-1030nr) and she don't want Windows anymore (SUCCESS!)

Out of the box I've noticed several things that had never worked with Ubuntu, Mint, Debian, Fedora, so on... My HP Scanner works (has not since purchase, cept on Winblows), nVidea was automatically recognized and configured, my monitor automatically sized to optimum display, Bluetooth Mouse and Keyboard kicked on immediately (other OSs took some time or didn't at all).

Heres the downside. No Firefox w/ 1.2 (was on 1.1). CTRL+SHIFT+N is the only way to get Terminal to open without menu diving (I do this anyways so don't care). Ubuntu/Gnome is still the backbone of this OS, but you really can't tell unless your file diving... especially since it does NOT have the problems of either (talking about Gnome3, Gnome2 is great). I'm sure theres other, like 'nerd tools' we all like... but I could care less about them honestly.

VBox this and you'll see what I'm talking about. Its over the top easy, but not loaded with bloatware. I'm keeping it!

Yes. It just won't sync to Joli when you change something until you do. Just keep in mind this is a Cloud based OS. New stuff. So it really isn't for someone who is not going to use the internet. I'm sure everyone will hear all about this "cloud" OS type stuff when Google goes public with theirs. Its pretty neat. I pulled my Jolicloud desktop up on my Windows gaming rig through Chromium and used it like you would VBox... but had to install nothing. Slick stuff.

EDIT: just now, my wife was wanting a B&N ap for the desktop on her Jolicloud OS Netbook. I pulled up chromium, signed into her desktop, created the ap, signed out. She clicked Sync on the bar at the top, Boom, B&N ap.

Any chances of getting firefox 4 on this?

What are the other limitations? Does it have bittorrent, IRC & download manager support?

My only concern is development. What programming tools does it have?

Fox 4 is a no. I tried, and with Joli 1.2 its a no. Now, in Joli 1.1 it works just fine, but with 1.2 they base of the DE switched to Chromium.

I have transmission running right now. Its my favorite of all the torrent downloaders. As far as anything else, if google makes it or its made to work with googles stuff, like chromium, then yes it works like a champ.
