D6 error code continued

Okay, so I thought this issue had been resolved, but had an interesting discovery. The gpu is not DOA.

Problem: In a new system (see sig for specs) I fail to reach post. I get debug error D6, no video input device detected. The build was working before, I just moved to a new case and switched to a reference GPU. The GTX 570 gets power and runs its fan, but nothing more.

I also tried an old Geforce 6800. It doesnt appear to get power at all.

I then tried an ATI (4650 i think?) which draws power from the pcie, it WORKED. The only difference is that this card requires no psu cable connects.

ALL cards work in a seperate machine.

What I tried:
* different cables
* different cable slots on psu (modular)
* clearing cmos / power and cmos cycling
* different pcie slots
* different video connections (both dvi ports)
* tested psu connects with different devices to ensure it works properly, it does.

additional info: grrrrrrrr

any ideas folks? I spent hours googling to no avail. I am now thinking it is some obscure mobo/gpu conflict or something.

(wish i had coughed up an extra 100 usd and gone with an asus... too bad newegg has a no mobo refund policy )

ugh...

Okay, so i gutted my case and set up a minimal rig to test outside the case.

CPU, GPU, 1 stick of ram and 1 fan in cpu fan slot.

Failed to make post in PCIE 1.
Failed to make post with 570 in PCIE2.
SUCCESS making post with gpu in PCIE3.

The problem is, i have a double slot gpu and it wont fit in that slot unless i start hacking into my case. The only difference I can see is that one is x16, one is x8, and 3 is x4 i think.

This issue only occurs with GPUs that draw extra power from the psu, not cards powered by PCIE.

Not quick to RMA... have a feeling the issue is a design flaw and not a hardware deformity.

Any input?

Got a hold of Newegg. Normally motherboards are no refund, but after explaining the entire issue they gave me one (with a restocking fee ofc).

Im in the market for a new board now. P67 or Z86. Needs to comfortably seat dual sli double slot cards, and black/red scheme is preferable. Budget is 250... any suggestions?

Oh and FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS UNHOLY... NO ASROCK!

I'm having the same problem as you now and of course there are no responses to this thread. What a waste of time to even post on this board..

did you ever get it fixed by the way?

EDIT: The problem is a faulty GPU.
