But since I already have my 2x 580's, unless there's significance improvement to switch to a 6990, don't see a reason at the moment.
- A 6990 can support 3x1080p displays easily, even at max settings. The better option I think would be getting 2x6950s 2GB mainly because you can find 6950s real cheap now and if you get unlockable ones then you can pretty much turn them in to 6990.
- If your sig rig is up to date, then it really isn't recommended running a 3 GPU setup on your mobo. You will have to put one card (guessing the 460) in the 4x slot, which will compromise it's performance, and ALL your PSI slots will be covered, which is not good for airflow, and if you have a sound card/network card then you'll have to take them out.
- Your 800w PSU is going to struggle to power 2x580s and a 460 (it probably won't be able to actually). 460s are very power hungry.
- With your mobo it's best to run a max of 2 GPUs. AMD cards can give you what your looking for without overloading your PSU or having to plug any cards in to the 4x slot.
So in conclusion I'd rule out a SLI 580 + 460 setup.
